Battle of the SUVs
Offloaded the S55 for a GL450. What a great SUV, althoug I miss the street kills. Until last night.
Sitting at a traffic light in the center lane. Freeway entrance is 1/2 mile up on the right. Chevy Suburban (short wheelbase) pulls up on my right. I am thinking I can take him, with my V8 and seven speed auto.
Light turns green, I take off, he jumps with me, I want to get in front of him to get on the freeway. I look over at him, slowing pulling away; look down at my instruments, 30....40....50....60.....6200 rpm! and the gears shift! I am walking him now, I've got a few car lengths on him, pull over to the freeway entrance, shut it down.
Another Chevy killed by a Mercedes. What a monster.

As a side note, I test drove the GL and loved it. Would've leased one, but Infiniti gave me such a great deal on a QX56 purchase that I couldn't pass it up. Pretty happy with the Q so far. I also test drove the Escalade and the Grand Cherokee SRT-8. GL was the nicest ride of them all, IMO. What I did not like, however, was MBZ's pricing strategy on the GL. I mean, cmon, no standard leather in a $60K+ vehicle?

Suburban is, by definition, the long wheelbase, and is only 320 HP or so (with most common powerplant). Given that the GL pulls on the 403 HP Escalade (which is based on the short wheelbase Tahoe platform), it is not surprising that you won.

ML320, Looking for my S4
So you cut off a surburban with your mini trailer. Congrats. I would loved to see that so that i could laugh. At the Suburban's ****ty american build quality and super underpowed engine, and the fact that your driving a " soccer mom on steriods car" no offence.

Hey, I didn't cut him off - I had him cleanly passed and pulled in front of him. And you are mistaken, it is not a "soccer mom" car - it is the GL, not the R. The R is reserved for soccer moms, the GL is for manly men like me.

BMW FTW
I have a buddy with a suburban and in my little V6 ML with only 215 HP we are dead even till about 50 ish then I start to walk away form him slowly. So I guess a GL monster would kill a poor ML lol

On a side note I wonder how many gallons of gas you both burned through.

GL is fairly good off road too. Far better than any Tahoe
How much gas...who cares?
