Audi 1.8T Vs. S65 AMG.

Well Im driving my 1.8T, (running with just my forge 007 DV and carbonio, chipped ecu out for resodering) and I happen to come across a S65, we make a left turn, and then a right onto the upper level of the Queensboro bridge (Manhattan bound) which is a long 1/2 mile straight away, he semi blasts it, and I catch up to him at the two 15mph right handers (he takes it easy through the turns) (first one going right and other going left) I catch up and appear along side of him (twas doing 60 or so on the 15mph turns (bilstein suspension + h&r springs + lowered on my audi) Im just waiting for him to slam it, at this time Im in 3rd doing 55 and hit it, he sees me and makes me look like im in reverse gear going down the bridge and not up it. We both stop at a light already in manhattan, exchange a few words, and tell him to hop on to amgpower.com/ mbword.org. Man S65 is such a beast, Id want one to own me any day.

Ok, i guess i have to be the one to say it. I do not understand why on earth you would buy an S65. It has a huge engine, granted, but it's a HUGE car. they cancel eachother out to a large extent. Try trackingone of those, that would be a trip. I dunno, maybe im just a big fan of two door cars, but an S65 seems like a paradox on wheels to me.

In many ways that's its appeal. A huge saloon that would destroy just about any stock Ferrari or P-car on the highway is a fun idea. For the extremely wealthy, why not? It could do with AWD drive though.

For what it's worth, I'd have a 65 in my dream garage, though it'd be the SL

BTW, is your M3 stick...i hope so!

I guess if I could afford an S65 in cash, I'd have a GT3 for track (if I care).

I raced an E63 AMG and my CLK55 felt like it had parachute on - I'd love to race an S65 and feel that 'reverse gear on a hill' feel.

I owned a 321bhp E36 M3 Evo coupe in estoril blue with cream interior. It was a wonderful car but I see you're planning one as your DD. Word of warning. The E36 is a very unsafe car in which to crash. It received 2 stars on the NCAP tests and I know of some horror stories involving them. Thye were okay for their time but not up to current standards. They just buckle. Stick with the E39.

nooooooo don't tell me that shet, I just bought one! I know it's a fairly light car, 3,175 lbs or so, a tin can compared to the 2 ton M5 but damnit what would be a fairly quick and good commuter car? The M3 I bought is red with 51k miles, perfect condition outside and inside with a few mods on it.

Sorry, didn't mean to say it would be a bad buy. It isn't. You'll absoulutely love it. I was just adding a word of caution when buying an older car. Mine was reliable and barely gave me a mechanical problem. It's still a head turner after all these years. Is yours the 240 or 286bhp version (i think the 321bhp was Europe only)?

*Twich* Estroil Blue!!!!!! Love that color. Id get an E36 regardless of the crash rating. Although M5 > M3 any day.

I thought the only one you can get in the states is the 240hp version? the previous owner had an estimate of 280hp with the mods on it but I'll see when it gets here. It's being shipped from NY and will arrive the 13th.

You might be right. BMW had switched to the E46 long before I moved to the states so my knowledge on the US spec E36 is patchy to say the least. It's a shame you guys didn't get the Evo version, those 321 ponies used to see me riding all over everything from P-cars to F-cars back in the day.

And for good reason. It would be useless, like i said. I'm not saying the S65 is a bad car, it just seems like a weird concept. I can see its use on the autobahn, but thats about it. Then again, if you have the money it doesnt matter.

Mercedes Benz is all about moving at very high speeds in absolute comfort: that is the true nature of the automobiles. The S65 is simply the prime example of this philosophy. Heated and massaged seats in a roomy interior - pure comfort. Oh, wait, was that a Ferrari I just ate?
