Toying with S55...(first kill story, please go easy!)
I'm on my way home on the freeway tonight at about 12ish and already in an upbeat, racey mood. My son (16, in the passenger's seat) notices the AMG coming up on our right and we both grin almost simultaniously. As I am already going slightly faster than him, I test him by edging past him a little to see if he bites. Right after my son says "He wants some." He bites so I downshift into 3rd and I'm at about 4500 so I can show off the beautiful note of my engine (and all of its contents) I also hear him take it down a few with a slight whine and at about the same time we get on it, him having the jump..I didn't quite bury my foot into it but I gave the pedal a spirited nudge towards the floor just above the kickdown, by this time I'm watching the rpm's fly into the 6's, I shift and all I hear is his engine being slightly drowned out by mine (windows cracked, sunroof open) and he's now next to me at about 85+ with me slowly but surely walking away from him...this is where I had this guy...I mashed the kickdown switch into the floor and felt the jolt and the car became briefly confused as to which gear was suitable, then shifted up once more after a few seconds (120+ish?). By this time I see a set of Bi-xenons at an acceptable distance in my rearview and I let off a few seconds later, turn on my puddle lights (sort of like a thumbs up) and leveled the freeway jet off at about 70. I think this guy got a little hurt because he broke the MB enthusiast code, did the infamous "fly-by" and tapped his brakes as if to say "goodbye!" and that was it. If you are on the forum it was a great run and the V8 Kompressor sounds awesome off the leash...but it may be time for a carwash!
(All speeds and RPM's are estimates because I was too into the run to look anywhere but the road and my "opponent".)
Also, does anyone have any suggestions on mods for a little more low end? He definately had an advantage at the beginning although we might not have been very precise with taking off at the same time. Thanks!

unless its supercharged, i dont believe it.
i drove a 6.5liter brabus e 210 and it wasnt nearly as fast as the 55k cars.
the newer v8's can only be enlarged to 6.1 liters by brabus, thats only 425hp.
i just dont see how thats possible

(Not a 500) its an S3000 blunderbrabus with nitrous and some stickers..
No really though I mean if I were to make up a kill...I'd kill something more glamourous (spelling?) than a filthy (literally) S55..maybe like one of Clay's Veyrons.
As for the mods I will show off at the next So-Cal meet as they are G-4 Classified and my GM wouldn't allow me to discuss them via the forum. But I know they are in fact worth the wait. I will have solid dyno numbers soon though, promise.

Well, if it is *really* an S500....
....you'd need a pretty thorough motor rework (heads, cams, headers, and the like) to pull an S55k, unless you've got spray or some other form of forced induction.
Not going to pick up the 140 or so ponies you'd need to pull one otherwise...

Give me a break...
....Brabus has a long history of rather overinflated horsepower claims.
Here's one example. It is a 1998 CLK 5.8, which was supposedly producing 400 horsepower.
http://www.einszweidrei.de/mercedes/...58st1998-1.htm
Supertest in sport auto 12/1998
Gewicht 1592 kg
0 - 80 km/h 4,4 s
0 - 100 km/h 5,9 s
0 - 120 km/h 7,7 s
0 - 140 km/h 9,9 s
0 - 160 km/h 12,5 s
0 - 180 km/h 15,9 s
0 - 200 km/h 20,3 s
From the same year, here's a test of a CLK55, which is rated at 50 hp *less*:
http://www.einszweidrei.de/mercedes/clk55amg1998-1.htm
Test in ams 25/1998
Gewicht 1591 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,9 s
0 - 100 km/h 5,3 s
0 - 120 km/h 7,3 s
0 - 140 km/h 9,4 s
0 - 160 km/h 11,9 s
0 - 180 km/h 15,2 s
0 - 200 km/h 19,3 s
Similarly, here's a test of the Brabus-E V12 7.3 W210 from 1996, which was supposedly putting out 582 horsepower:
http://www.einszweidrei.de/mercedes/braev12731996-1.htm
Test in sport auto 10/1996
Gewicht 1850 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,6 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,9 s
0 - 120 km/h 6,4 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 8,3 s
0 - 160 km/h 10,4 s
0 - 180 km/h 13,0 s
0 - 200 km/h 16,0 s
Now here's a test of an E55 from January 2003, with 476 rated horsepower, 106 less than the V12 above was supposedly putting out:
http://www.einszweidrei.de/mercedes/e55amg2003-1.htm
Test in sport auto 01/2003
Gewicht 1944 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,3 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,6 s
0 - 120 km/h 5,9 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 7,6 s
0 - 160 km/h 9,8 s
0 - 180 km/h 12,2 s
0 - 200 km/h 14,6 s
See a pattern here?
Oh, and as for how this compares to the Brabus E650 6.5L, which was rated at 450 horsepower: well, they just so happen to have a test of one of those as well:
http://www.einszweidrei.de/mercedes/...e6501997-1.htm
Test in sport auto 8/1997
Gewicht 1762 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,8 s
0 - 100 km/h 5,2 s
0 - 120 km/h 7,0 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 9,0 s
0 - 160 km/h 11,4 s
0 - 180 km/h 14,5 s
0 - 200 km/h 18,1 s
Quick, but not in the same league as a 55k car.
Here's one example. It is a 1998 CLK 5.8, which was supposedly producing 400 horsepower.

You took this challenge with your 16 y.o. son in the car?
We all lose this one!
What's he gonna' do when Dad is at home?
And don't say, "Not my son."
Take him to the track.

The 55K is a bit of a stretch, but a Brabus 5.8 or 6.1 would not have a problem walking a N/A 55.
5.4 Litre - 355 bhp
5.8 Litre - 400 bhp
6.1 Litre - 426 bhp
6.1 Litre (S) - 445 bhp
5.4 Litre - 355 bhp
5.8 Litre - 400 bhp
6.1 Litre - 426 bhp
6.1 Litre (S) - 445 bhp

The question lies in IF he has a engine modded Brabus S500, and if he does, how he thinks he raced a S55K and beat it.Even if he had the 6.1 Brabus.....he will not beat a compressed S55. PERIOD

20+ to list......
Maybe that S55K he raced was only a poser? There are a lot of them in Queens you know, I am not saying it happened in Queens, but that could be it. Posers are all around the country, wherever I go, San Francisco, L.A., Chicago, or Boston, I always spot quite a handful of them.

There is no question a engine modded Brabus S500 can beat a N/A S55 in which only goes 0-60 in 5.7 and the 1/4 mile in 14.1 (Motor Trend).

Some of you really go all out to try an prove him wrong, *cough*Improvis*cough* (

See my point? Just take it as what it is. It doesn't seem like he is trying to boast or anything. Could have been a fake S55, a N/A 55 with some mods, or could just be some guy that wasn't ready or willing to go all out. Or it could have happened.

I have been unable to find an actual road test of a Brabus S500. But before I'd concede any victory for the Brabus after seeing the results I found and posted above, I would *have* to see such a test.

I would argue that there's plenty of question, thanks to the instances I posted above. If a 342 horsepower CLK55 AMG gets tested faster than a "400 hp" Brabus CLK 5.8, and if a E55k rated at 469 hp totally annhilates a Brabus 7.2 V12 E class rated at 582, and if a 6.0L E Class Brabus supposedly running 450 hp can barely edge out a CLK55, then there is obviously a major discrepancy in these horsepower ratings.
