420SEL vs Stock 07 350Z
Last night I was peacefully returning back home on US 50 and all of the sudden a stock 07' 350Z with paper tags pulls hard on my tail. The results? Well, after pulling three car lengths on him (at about 110-120), he finally gives up and pulls back. So then, after 5-6 car lengths I slow down and give him the rear brake sign just in case he changes his mine. However, he doesn't respond. Then, as I approach the exit, I slow down and beep the horn twice. His facial expression: Priceless!!!!! Hey, I guess he thought that he could easily run over a 20 year old vehicle. But, oh well, I guess he was wrong!!!!. The Nissan dealership where he brought his car will probably receive a phone call this week!
One thing I've learned is that although the W(126) model aren't 0-60 kings like the AMG series (which likely will be my next vehicle), they are certainly nice from 80-150 given their age.

Nice run... 350'z arnt that fast... A lot of people see the 300 HP number but dont realize they have almost no torque and that HP is peak for a short time.. On the other hand you making a crap load of torque with the big V8 over a long period of time..

I think the previous reply explains it all. The peak hp on the 350Z is very brief. And that's why the Z came on strong from behind for about 1/2 of a car length and then it began to fade away. I think once he notice that he couldn't pull pass me after I had 3 car lengths on him, he began to give up.

Yea I doubt it was stock... I have never heard of a stock 350z getting below a 13.8 with a trap over 102 MPH. Most run mid 14's at 98-100 mph.

Hey, guys, I looked at the dyno graph of stock 350Z and andrewZ is right. After 5000-5200rpms, the torgue takes a drastic downfall. Then, at 6000rpms, its peak hp begins to drop as well. But, the moral to this story is: Never underestimate the Merc's whether old or new!

Obviously you have no idea about 350Zs. My bone stock 03 350Z auto ran 13.8 @100. Which has the 287hp engine. The 07 Zs have 306hp by the new standards. Go to My350z.com and you will see time slips on the 07 Z running 13.4-13.5 @104+ BONE STOCK!

As mentioned, the '07s have 306bhp under the new ratings. If you go by the old ratings though, that would be the equivalent of 315-320bhp.
I dynoed a stock '06 track with 300bhp and actually pulled better numbers than all the modded 287bhp Zs with bolt-ons. The '07 is even better in terms of power.
The older 287hp engines died up top, but the newer rev-up engines in the '06s have a better top-end as does the '07.

I don't think he's racing you at all. Your car had nothing on the 07 350Z, sorry to bust your bubble.

My friends 06 350z with I,E,spacer 6spd gets me by a car 0-120. I have exhaust, spacer. It pulls harder topend than my 03 Z. Now the 07 Zs gains about 3-4mph in the 1/4 stock for the stock.

Yo Pete whats up? Traitor haha. I still have the 350Z but drive it less now. I ran a stock c43 with my c36. Damn I was surprised it was a close race. Considering the c43 has a v8 302hp vs c36 I6 268hp!

Yea I was shocked wen i ran that c43 in my z as well....thought it would have been a total slaughter of the z...c36 must be alot lighter...you going to jersey this sunday???

My vehicle is moded similar to the euro models. (In fact, I'm considering inplanting the AMG 6.0 liter W(126) variant engine from another car into my car soon). But, in answer to everybody replies: All I know is that he definitly tryed to pull pass me. In fact, I definetly heard the Z-car's engine screaming. However, I still was able to pull away from him. Maybe he had an automatic. But, in any case, he definetly lost! ![bow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)
Oh, By the way, the official performance specs. for a 07' 350Z with a 6speed transmission are: (350z Coupe 3.5 liters V6 6-Speed, Curb weight 3404 lbs. 306 hp 268 ft-lbs torque. 0-60 5.4 sec, 13.95 sec 1/4 mile @ 102 mph)

Very Slow Mercedes
![Arrow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon2.gif)
Not sure about the 07 but I my 78 Mercedes "sedan" will run all over a 350 z between 80 to 150 but 0 to 60 I will have a crystal clear vison of Nissan Z stinky but....239 rwhp, 343 ft lbs ot torque 3800 lbs. don't know about a 420sel but some big benzes have enough torque to run right over the Z and mine certainly can.
Only way to actually know is a real world rolling test both cars spinning at 65 mph and hit the throttle from there....
Any SO Cal Z' owners know of a clear stretch of road I will risk my impecable driving record to see what happens, I don't have a 420 sel though but can use my 1978 sel.... which is about 8 years older than the 420 sel....

Nice car!
Hey, the 6.9 is a very powerful car. I believe the torque rating is 405. In fact, my mechanic's client has a euro 6.9 that's faster than a W210 E55. Now. to upgrade that, there is a AMG 6.9. Top speed is somewhere around 175-180mph. Hence, keep you car. These guys don't realise that Mercedes made some extremely powerful cars that easily runs or outpreforms these new Japanese makes! Case in point: 1.) 300SEL 6.3 2.) 450 6.9 3.) AMG 450 6.9 4.) AMG 6.0 liter 560SEL/SEC 7.) 500E. This is not to mention the euro variants. Also, in reality, most of these new sport cars begin to vastly slow down after they reach speeds over 100mph, whereas the big block V8 Merc's are just begining to get started at 100mph+. This is why most of these 1/4 mile sports cars get taken on the highway by the german sedans because they (these newer Japanese cars) are 1/4 mile cars and nothing else!
