E500 Kills M3

Well I happend to catch a light new this guy in a newer M3, this traffic light everyone always races because the freeway entrance is on the right lane about 1/8 mile ahead.I was already in the right lane and as soon as he pulled up in the middle lane I knew his intentions. When the light turned green we both rolled the throttle agresively and then we stepped on it at about the same time, He was at my door untill he shifted he fell back to my back bumper, then by the time we let off at 70 mph I was maintaining a car distance on him. I was surprised again at the capabilities of my E500.I thought he would pull away but guess not.

its not the capabilities of your e500, even though it is a quick car, its the incapabilities of the other driver

Why is the M3 so easy to destroy?

At the track especially.

You M5 and M6 folks need to help little bro out!!

I beat an M3 tonight by over 2 seconds
I think even a Sentra gave it a run!

I like the car but after seeing it abused even by a 335, I wonder what the heck is going on! I thought M3's were fast?

Sorry for the rant but and Nice kill BTW but really you may as well have picked on a Nissan Maxima

b/c they need a perfect run, if you dont shift at the right time or quick enough they drop out of their tiny powerband and bye bye m3.

i raced my bro's m3 (smg) and it was pretty much just as fast as my clk, clk was still faster though

I remember reading a review of the 330ci coupe when it dropped, and the reviewer said he paced an E46 M3 on the highway and the M3 had a hard time running away from the 330ci. They just don't have a ton of power for the highway.

Cylinder, I like your posts but this one is way off. The M3s 333bhp will trounce a 330 with 100bhp less all day long. Added to this, M engines (as you know with your big daddy V10) love the highway rolls due to their high revving and free breathing nature. In this test, the M3 probably just kept his car in sixth cos he couldn't be bothered, as I wouldn't be either.

OP- good kill. The E500 is a real torque filled sleeper and not far behind the M3 in terms of raw pace. However, M3s are unfortunately driven by douches who think they're the fastest on the road but cannot shift... but that's to take nothing away from you or your car as the E500 is very nice and good on you for teaching the guy a lesson

Like I said, it was the reviewer, not me. I have limited experience inside E46 M3's and none in a 330Ci.

Nice run...

correct, the E500 has the tq to get away from the M3...

...My buddy has an '06 M3 and has to revv his high to get a good launch, but on the fwy it's fast...

I think the driver has a major part in car's performance...

A good launch takes skills, especially with manual. The torque of the E500 is the determine factor from a stand-still launch.

i agree, m3's are fast on the highway, there is no way in hell a 330 would even see which way a properly driven m3 went

I saw a 2007 335, beat an M3 pretty much all day long, maybe it had some kind of upgrade? tHE 335 WAS BARELY LOSING TO ME! Could a stock 335 be this fast?

I love the look of the M3 but it seemed slow for 333 hp. Guess it had to be bad driving!

Probably a chipped 335. Those chipped 335s eat N/A 55s.

The 335 definitely had a piggyback. I have one that has run 12.68 at Moroso with drag-radials, my best trap speed has been 109.45. It ran 13.34 at 104 when 100% stock.

I think just having a stick shift car means your launching and shifting need to be done right. The M3 only has like 266 tq also, my EVO is really fast but if it's not launched right or if I miss a shift it's over. Having automatic is so much predictable, the only thing I have to do is turn off the traction control.

Yeah the guy that tuned my EVO also tunes 335's VISHNU is the name, he uses the same exede piggyback on both cars. The last I checked he had 335's pushing about 366 whp with the piggyback tuned with a free flowing turboback.

I LOVE RACING EVO's,

Your car vs. the 63 is such a fun match up!!! Everytime I get accross from one I know I better get the **** out of the box. Guy did a 12.9@106 at LACR Da=4000. I can make up a little on an Evo but not more than .2-.3! So if I cannot stay within that the first 60 ft the race is O V E R. Funny it seems to always be EVO 1.8 60ft 63 2.0, somewher in the last 200 feet the 63 catches and passes. It is a truly great race assuming the guy driving the EVO shifts correctly and launches. They are serious track cars.

Good Kill BTW,
Fun race

I'm going to have to agree and say the BMW driver wasn't ready or something...

My last MB was a 2003 e500, and while it was quick, was destroyed one afternoon by a late model stock M3...

Of course, I've been exacting my revenge on every 'M' car I can find since my new purchase...

M3's suck with bad shifting. Perfect example: My buddy got owned by a 99 c280 sport auto vs 99 M3 5 speed. Then he mastered shifting and that **** is fast when done right.

E46 M3 runs low to mid 13's E500's run high 13's to low 14's. If you got the jump on him and he's playing chase in an all out run from 70 he should and will get you. Especially being that you are at least 3 to 400 lbs heavier than they are. I say he was not driving the car at it's best. I know a E500 is a beautiful car but I'll catch them upstiars with my Modded N/A BMW E36 332i which also gives some E46M3's a run for the money until way upstairs where they start to pull .

Shifting correctly plays a huge part in making a manual transmission car run what they are supposed to..

I used to drag race (hondas) awhile back, and it took me a long time to learn how to shift correctly... Once I had it down, I was able to knock off 2-3 tenths of my ETs...

Now that I have a Mercedes, I dont have to worry about shifting again..
