Killed and Left for Dead by a Mustang

Milan Dragway runs vehicles in groups: bikes, cars on slicks, cars on street tires. I normally hold my own in the street tire group. My car was a little off today but I still outran several F-Bodies, a different Mustang, and a GTO today.

This particular Mustang was at the end of the slick tire group and I was at the front of the street tire so we ran head-to-head.

I had a pretty decent launch. Didn't matter. He was so fast, all I saw was his car receding into the horizon. I practically needed binoculars to see him cross the finish line.

His 9.2 second 1/4 mile time beat my 12.9 by over three seconds. He passed the finish line and was coasting to the turn-out before I even reached 1,000 feet.

Okay, technically I won because he red-lighted but it was no moral victory. That Stang was incredibly fast.

Why would you feel bad? It's a built track car isn't it? Now if he drove that thing to pick up groceries too, then that would probably be different.

Yeah, I know of a guy who died a few years ago racing his 7 second Mustang. They can be modded for unbelievable speed. But when you get into those kind of 1/4 mile times it gets very dangerous. Anything under high 9's can be pushing it.

You won buddy thats all that matters. Red light=loss, especially at the level that mustang is at. Very impressive so red lighting is mid blowing. Guy musta been real scurred of yer car! If anyone shoulda red-lighted it shoulda been U., hella fast stang, jeez ..He likely put his car on a flatbed , you just rolled to dinner

Same thing happened to me last year. I lined up with a late model TA, he was cammed at the least on slicks. The light turned green, he launched pulling the wheels and was G-O-N-E! Low 10's that run. Same as you he happened to red light.

new balance
sick times on that stang, definitely not "trailer queen" times, thats still boderline pump gas times, unfortunately Last time I was at the track a guy was running 10.40's @ 144 on race gas with drag radials, blown 427 , with a best of 9.60's @ 155+ on drag radials, yes full street car driven to and from track 960+ RWHP....although mind blowingly impressive this is not uncommon in the mustang/supra world

Lets not get carried away, there are alot more 8 second streetbikes on pump gas then you could imagine. The mustang's 60' time would be hard to match on a stock wheelbase bike but the E/T&mph can easily be acheived on any 1000cc bike lowered&geared for the track with a good rider.Bone stock GSXR-1000's are trapping in the 145+mph range right off the showroom floor

Hi, Gene. Nice times...looks like your ECU flash issues are behind you!

I've only done test-and-tune runs at Milan but the track has been terrific each time. Nice folks there, too.

Plenty of Mustangs can run those times and still be your grocery getter....trailered Mustangs will kick the teeth in on anything Italy or Germany can build.....a 1000hp Veyron runnin 10.2 ain't gonna do it.....you need to get to the track more....

You have got to be kidding me. I live in Texas. I'm around domestics night and day. I've seen 7 second Mustangs, and 17 second Mustangs. Just because it is USUALLY domestics which dominate the track does not mean Germany does not have anything in store. There are boosted E30s making four figure output numbers.

A Veyron is a factory hyper sports car (or supercar--whatever people like to call them). You're comparing apples and oranges. That Mustang was a track car. It might have been a streetable track car, but it's a car built to live its life down the quarter mile either way. VW engineers did not build the Veyron to do the same.

And by the way, these Mustangs are heavily modified. Oh, you already knew that?

...and after the 1/4 mile, the 'Stang (screaming at redline in top gear) is left in the dust by the Veyron.

Let's not get carried away, the quickest 1/4 mile time for a "street legal bike" is 8.25 sec with a max trap of 296 mph. That was a Suzuki 1400 cc turbo (no nos). (www.mrturbo.co.za/turbobusa.htm) It, of course, is not stock. So, I really don't think there are more 8 second bikes than I could imagine. I know that here in So. Nevada, most of the street bikes at the track run 12's. Those who can drive pretty good are in the low 11's and those who really know their stuff are in the mid to low 10's. I've never seen a 9 sec. run here.

Rudyrono, please, please do some more in depth research before you challenge me in the motorcycle field. The fastest "street legal" bikes are VERY deep into the 7 sec range&trap high 190's(new record of 200.1mph was just set a few weeks ago).
Mr.Turbo biks are slow, everyone into dragracing bikes knows better, but since you are not I will take my time to inform you otherwise. Why post a link from Europe instead of the USA?Who the hell cares what there doing over there, they aint as fast as us by any means
Velocity Racing is the top player, and here in the Tri-State area there are HUNDREDS of 8sec&7 sec bikes that are street legal.I'm at the track every weekend&I know what I'm talking about.I don't need to Google anything,I'm in the loop my friend.I've been racing bikes since 1990
http://www.velocityracing.com/archive/wally.htm

I have friends that run 9's on there 600's and I also have friends with 600rwhp Velocity prepped busa'a running deep in the 7 second range.I also own 2(two) 8 second streetbikes,a '05 GSXR-1000 & a '00 Busa

Apparently the people you see running at the track have there head up there *** and would be better suited to driving a car instead

If you STILL dont want to believe me,pop on over to www.psychobike.com and lurk a bit.You would be amazed at how fast streetbikes are going for the skilled pilots who ride them

And that 8.25@296mph must be an amazing bike
Go re-check your numbers,sir.
The fastest streetbike in america runs 7.25@20.17mph,please attempt to prove me otherwise.
I'm bored&just had alot of Starbucks coffee.........

Actually, that's "sprinting". It ain't racing until you need a map (and have to turn right).
