02 E55 vs 02-04 SVT Cobra
On the way back from school today... a black 01-04 SVT Cobra pulled up next to me, REVVED LOUD.. IT WAS VERY LOUD, I don't know if he had a supercharged version or not... but it was incredibly loud. At first I floor it get ahead of him get in front, then after I hung out a little bit waited for him because I can tell he wasn't trying. So he pulls next to me, floors it... then I floor it, he kept up with me, but I was pulling harder, and I took him by very little... maybe a half a car length because there wasn't much space to play with. I gotta say tho, they are fast. Well has anyone raced one of these, and does anyone know if I was racing a supercharged one? Because it sounded like he did much more to it than stock.

the stock figures i have found say that the N/A (2001-2002) Cobras run 13.5s while the S/C Cobras (2003-2004) run 12.9s. Being that you ahead of this car and assuming you have the N/A E55 (which i think you do), i would assume that it was the 2001/2002 Cobra that is not supercharged. Those cars can be really loud if you throw an exhaust and headers and cams on them.
Nice kill though
you probably were not. cobras starting coming supercharged stock from the factory in 03 and 04. like our cars, they can do pulley upgrades, though the pulley kits for their cars is cheaper. the 2001 and 2002 models have 320 hp stock and 319 lb-ft tq and the 2003 and 2004 390 hp stock and 390 lb-ft tq.

The one that I lost to was heavily modified according to both the owner and the beating that I took. I have run with another that was S/C and looked/sounded stock and I left him behind without a problem.
I would still guess that your's wasn't the S/C version, or he wasn't giving it everything (which I've never known a Mustang driver to do).

Since we didn't get to higher speeds... how would you think I would have done? Because I know AMG's pull harder and harder. I really wanted to ask him details but I couldn't because I had to make a turn to drop a friend off. Oh... btw my car had 3 other passengers, 4 including me. LOL
Beware of the 03/04 cobra's as guys can slap on an aftermarket supercharger for about $3k and put those things over 600+ rwhp! Then they go and post up a kill story they have on a "more expensive car" over at SVTperformance. Believe me, every race that's EVER been won by a mustang over a MB, BMW, Lambo, Porsche or Ferrari has been posted on a mustang message board somewhere. LOL, they live for that stuff!
As a former Cobra owner I can tell you that the faster the speeds got, the more you would start pulling him. Both cars are heavy and lack a lot of aero advantages but the cobra is not a "top speed" car and does not do well at really fast speeds (150+). They just arent set-up to race at those kinds of speeds.

Maybe if I drop a supercharger in my baby I can take a supercharged Cobra.
Nice run. Those supercharged ones are a force to be reckoned with. Some minor modifications and you have yourself a QTR monster. As for the sound, about a month ago I merge onto the highway and hear this uncorked V8 down the road. Getting excited, I quickly maneuver around other traffic and come across a black 'Stang with a LOUD rumble coming out of those large chrome tips. I pass him and attempt to bait the guy, but no bite. He took the next exit...oh well...

The 03 and 04 cobra's are pretty fun to mod up and you can do it for a whole lot less than a benz. For around 6k in mods you can be pushing 600 hp at the rear wheels. But after 120 or so a honda civic can pull on them. They just are not made to be top end cars. Sure they can get to 120 really quick but after that it is like shooting fish in a barrell. Even the new Shelby GT 500's are a joke.

How many have you run?
I see them turning low- to mid-12's stock at the track.
the crap in this thread amazes me.
First of all, there was no 2002 Cobra. In THAT body style they are 99/01 = 320 hp non-supercharged. They didn't make a 2000 because of hp problems with the 99's. They also didn't make a 2002 because they were preparing for the 2003/2004's which came with a supercharger and were underrated at 390 hp. Most put out approx. 370 rwhp stock.
I had a 2003 with a $100 blower pulley, $200 catback exhaust, $80 cold air intake, and $300 dyno tune. At 426 rwhp and on slicks before the pulley/tune I ran 11.76@118 with a 1.63 60 ft. After the pulley/tune and stage 3 blower porting I was making 517rwhp. Total spent: less than $1500.
bone stock I had NO problem hitting the stock limiter at 155mph. After the mods I could blow past the speedometer indicated 165mph and still be pulling no problem.
So...don't underestimate an 03/04 Cobra, especially if they have drag radials. Also, don't be fooled into thinking that they don't pull top end. With less than $1500 in mods they will run north of 170 mph.

You killed what you killed, but don't underestimate a kid in a V-8 Mustang or F-body that has a few dollars in his pocket.
My cousin's '04 Cobra with mods like 1FSTAMG has posted can run high 11's with a some decent driving. He could probably go faster with better tires. Swap to a Kenne Bell and it is fierce. They can bust half shafts in the rear like snapping a twig. Those cars can break 170 no problem, and get there really damn fast. Look for the subtle rear spoiler, big hood bulges with twin reversed scoops, and the oval foglight holes with an oval lower grill down below. Those are the 03/04 Cobra's, assuming they still have stock bodywork. They don't have the panache and luxury a Benz has though. So win or lose, you still are in a well built box with leather and engineering refinement.
