Chipped 07 S600 vs. new F430 convertible
Had a little fun on the freeway with a neighbor in his new paper-plates F430 convertible. Not sure if this was the expected result or if maybe he wasn't trying.
My S600 has an ECU-only tune, no TCU mods. Supposedly delivers about 620hp on 93 octane, though I've never dyno'd it.
We're both cruising at 55 and punch it. He immediately leaps ahead about half a car, but then when my 600 finally decides to shift gears 5 minutes later (maybe a slight exaggeration), I started pulling on him. By the time we hit 110 I was almost nose to nose. The exhaust tone on his car was one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard; it almost didn't matter if he was going 105 or 25.
This was doubly fun because this is the guy who made me start to consider Mercedes as a performance car when he got one of the first of the new 03 SL55's in our Austin back in 2002 and utterly spanked me in my supercharged NSX on a twisty stretch of road. I picked up an SL55 2 years later and loved it, at least the 50% of the time it was working.
So what do you think -- expected result, or was he sandbagging to allow for engine break in?

Stock to Stock, your both even in terms of speed... but since you have an ECU Tune, you can take him. So yeah, he was really racing with you (expected result). Amazing what Benz's can do.

I added the supercharger kit to my 94 NSX in 1997. As with the 600, I never actually dyno'd it, but according to the vendor it was going to put out ~330hp vs. the 255 it had stock. It was perceptibly faster for 30-70 and 60-90 runs, though I never did get a measurable wristwatch difference for 0-60 runs. In hindsight, I wouldn't bother again with the mods-- the car was so well balanced to begin with and the bump of the supercharger still wasn't enough to put it into true muscle-car territory. I went with the s/c to minimize throttle lag. For tracking, slicks made a much bigger impact on my times than the s/c.
