seeing as you guys like facts and figures so much i thought i'd post this up for you, its a 3/4 mile drag event from last year to give you some real world results.

the times shown are the best achieved by each car on the day ( most of us managed to get in at least 5 runs), all on the same track and in the same conditions.

There were a few AMG's present, no SL600 but notice the SL65 at #8 and Z06 at #7,
although the Z06 achieved the quicker time the SL65 reached the higher speed which would suggest that over a longer distance the SL65 would have been the quickest.

for ref I came in at #76, but I still beat a E39 M5 and an Audi RS4

Thanks for the info. Do you have the trap speeds available? All I see here are times, and I would love to see those traps!

here you go
the numbers at the end refer to time placings

I'd just like to point out that the SL65 was standard apart from having the limiter removed, hence the higher than restricted 155 speeds

When the weather warms up a bit (like end of March or so), I am willing to arrange a race between a stock C6 Z06 and any stock SL600 from a highway roll in the tri-state region (in Mexican highways of course). Dead serious.

Hello Exodus,

I totally believe your stroy and I currently owned a C6 Z06. Why do I believe it? because ANYTHING can happen on the street OR THE TRACK (Not sure why people always refer to anything happening only on the street). Let me assure you that stock for stock, the only Mercedes that is as fast as the Z06is the SLR. Sock for stock, the SL600 is not going to outrun a Z06. Now, what if you are the better driver? What is the Z06 lost traction? What if the Z06 was in the wrong gear? Rev-limiter? etc. Well, then obviously you will win.

I hardly discredit Z06 kills on any forums (well, except the Viper forums, those guys were truly in denial...but not anymore with the new 08, ha) becasue I know anything can happen out there. You won, that was that. Good job. Next time, you might not get so lucky and run into a driver that is alert and competent. Only then will you be in trouble..

Oh, and btw, if there are any modded SL600's, AMG's, etc. in the MI area that like to have a good time and cruise, let me know.

I will bet you I can. If a stock E55 managed a 11.7 pass, I'm willing to bet I can do the same-- it's all in the launching. Not that I'll ever bother mind you.
Exodus,
It's not worth going on. Everyone is so ready to call anything out that seems out of the ordinary.
So many factors that occured in your pulls with the vette, that no one can predict the outcome. Faster, slower or indifferent, it just went the way it did.
So many geeks that read and post here are overly ready to pounce and call you out for not being honest. So gay......

People.....relax and just enjoy the reading....

There's nothing "gay" about considering how likely (or unlikely) an event is in light of KNOWN FACTS about two cars' relative performance. And the FACT is that even heavily-modded E55s get walked by bone stock Z06s, as can be seen in the videos I linked to here:

Also, look at the numbers provided by Timberman above. A stock Z06 did the 3/4 mile run thusly:
1 7 adrian w Noble M400 23.49 @ 173.2
2 16 LuckyP Ultima GTR 23.8 @ 165.51
3 4 Yorkshire Porsche 997 Turbo 23.94 @ 169.52
4 91 Mr Harris Lamborghini 24.03 @ 172.33
5 6 jasonsear Nissan GTR R34 24.36 @ 162.62
6 9 Blkrokt Porsche 996 TT 24.39 @ 166.31
7 26 Twerlie Noble M12 24.64 @ 162.15
8 11 Songman3 Corvette C6-Z06 24.64 @ 164.17
9 2 phatgixer Mercedes SL65 AMG 24.78 @ 164.77

The Benz which would run the closest to an SL600, an E55, ran
43 19 firesafetydave Mercedes E55 26.65 @ 150.68

That's two full seconds. Unless this Z06 driver was handicapped with an IQ of 90, no screwup he could have made, short of running with his parking brake on, would be insurmountable over that distance.

And gearing-wise, how could he screw it up? The Z06 shifts into 2nd at 59 mph, so he'd be pretty low on the rpm scale to throw it into this gear, unless he was stupid enough to go for 3rd--in which case he could downshift and close the gap.

After 2nd, he'd have to execute a shift at 88 mph into 3rd, and one more into 4th at 121; he wouldn't have to shift again, as 4th would take him all the way up to 157, faster than they went in this race.

Even if he was a mediocre shifter, two shifts wouldn't cost him two full seconds.

So how is it possible for him to blow a 60-150 race in a car which traps 10 mph faster through the 1/4, and runs a 3/4 mile race two full seconds and 14 mph faster than the car he was running, when both vehicles got on it at the same time?

And what is "gay" about wondering how it is possible? Should we just accept any claim on its face, no matter how implausible, just because the guy is driving a Benz? Particularly when he won't even agree to do it again or show up at a 1/4 mile track?

Get real. We reserve the right to discuss, in a discussion forum, whether or not a "kill story" seems plausible. And while it may be difficult for you to believe, sometimes people can, and do, embellisn and/or make stuff up and post it here; click here for an example:
