C6 Z06 vs GT-R!

Unfortunately, no, it wasn't me...but it really happened! Crazy story, very cool.

Driving up the Mt Rose Hiway towards Lake Tahoe, and I see 2 vehicles I do not recognize...... Big front grills, wing on back. I turn off this hiway onto a deserted, two lane blacktop with no cross streets and 1/2 mile straight visability with no cars for miles. Whats stopped right in front of me on the side of the road? Another one of these cars.... I pull up next to it and its a new Nissan GTR. I ask the two guys; "Ok, guys, what are you doing, a test for some magazines?". Yep! I asked them if they wanted to test it against a 06 with 45,000 miles on it........ 2,000 rpm launch, to 2nd, then 3rd, shut down after about 110....... Got them on the start by 2 car lengths, opened it up a little to 3 about halfway through 2nd, then we were the same to the end. They followed to my home. Took pictures, exchanged business cards. The driver said he did not quite have the launch control down yet. Hey, it took me 6 months to learn how to drive my car! He took pictures too and said he would send some to me. His passenger was from Popular Science Magazine

The GTR is one beautiful car! Great interior, very bolstered seats front and back. The intake runners look about 3 and 1/2 inches Dia! Huge! Brakes too! Very nice looking car, looks like a great deal for $69K..... But, not so aggressive and downright muscular and mean looking as the USA Z06! Of course, I am a little biased...... I have about 5 pictures of them side by side in my driveway!!!! I will have them on cd by this afternoon PST, and need someone to PM me how to take pictures from my "documents" and put them on the forum. I have XP Home.

This did not just make my day, but my whole week! I told the driver that the GTR has so much hype about it, he said: "Way too much". I told them I would post on the Z06 forum. They will most likely read this. They leave, and I decide to also leave after about 5 minutes. Get back to the open 4 lane hiway to go back to town and whats coming towards me? Another GTR with a gaggle of cars leading with photographers hanging out the windows taking pictures. Well, I couldn't allow this! As they passed in front of me, I hit it hard and was next to the GTR at 7,000 rpm in 3.4 ! All of the cameras suddenly were pointed at me. I hit the throttle several times in 2nd, jumping the front end up and down, just making a scene... Funny as hell! The GTR driver wanted to go for it, but the photoraphers in front of him were in the way.

All of this occured at 5,000 ft elevation, maybe 5,500 ft. Doesn't the turbo compensate for elevation? My sons WRX displays a lot higher PSI here than at Sea Level. And my Z06 runs a heck of a lot better at Sea Level. Anthony at LG has me ready to go for the long tubes, cats, and cam that will give me 550 RW torque, 520-530 RWHP with the tune and all bolt ons. Just waiting for the $$!

Next post: Dodge Charger, Hemi, Super Bee...........!

Believe it or not, AutoBlog followed up and made an article on the street race between the GT-R and the Z06!

I'm familiar with the feeling, the Supra is the biggest **** magnet in the world. Every dude within a 20 mile radius follows me giving me the thumbs up and asking how much power it makes. Then I stare jealously at the guido in the convertible M3 as his 11 girlfriend jumps in the passenger seat and I realize the error of my ways.

no matter, unlike the guido I actually have an income, and do not have to put dinner on my dad's amex.

Don't worry about the GTR staying stock grasshopper. I assure you that week 1 it will at least be chipped. Possibly with an exhaust. After all, I'm going to have to wait for the car, I might as well stack up goodies for it in my basement in the meantime.

A near 800whp Supra and a tuned GTR? You're really catering to one hardcore Japanese automobile fetish.

That was definitely one of the (silver) pre-production mules with the Spec-V motor in it. C&D trapped at 125mph in it.

The white production model (R&T and at Sac Raceway) trapped 116 and 118mph respectively. The C6Z would walk it.

I will do you one better. How about you are trying to cross the street on foot because your 996 is in the shop costing your more in upgrades than the guy's M3 who is making a right turn and nearly hits you. And yes he did have a dime piece in the passenger seat..

You have to ask the question. 'Am I making the right decisions in life?'
