C32 vs. Gallardo Superleggera

First of all: long time no talk. Business has been great for bankruptcy attys lately (thank you Bush (you FM)!).

As far as the C32/Gallardo SL run goes: you are already thinking B.S.. The C32 is a low-to-mid thirteen second car and the Gallardo SL is a mid-to-high 11 second car (mostly attributable to its AWD and ability to absolutely ROCKET the dig!!!). The Gallardo (520 HP and about 3000 lbs) should walk the C32 in any scenario, so you say.

Well, my C32 is a little different. Roughly 250 lbs lighter than average (no sunroof, Optima, no spare, Evo mods, all unecessary exhaust components removed, 17lb wheels, etc.). Guesstimating 450 engine HP and probably 360 wheel HP. Weight: Maybe 3200-3300.

So, my buddy buys a new Gallardo Spyder. Beautiful car (orange). Have not yet run it. However, he shows up yesterday with a dark grey Gallardo Superleggera that he was given as a loaner while his orange Gallardo was being detailed (tough life!!!!). First, he took me for a drive in the LGSL. The Gallardo SL is majorly FAAST!!!! The exhaust note is sex on wheels and the shifts practically dislocate a disc. I drive for a bit, and I am in love. The Lambo SL F-ing rocks!!!!!

So, my buddy says "let me take your kid for a ride." I say "O.K.," but let me run with you in my C32. He says "Cool," and off we go. I ask him to give me the jump. He says "Cool." Status: My car is full tank with 230 driver. (me) His car is 1/2 tank with 170 lb driver and 110 lb passenger (my 13 YO son). Pretty equal weight penalty.

So, we did about five runs, varying from 20-150 MPH and several freeway runs of 80-150 MPH.

He could pull me, but VERY slowly. We are talking about maybe he would pull me a carlength in 5-10 secs. If I took the jump from 80 (with him right behind me), he could not start to gain on me until 130 or so. We were never able to line up side-by-side, but I am comfortable saying that, in a true "line up," (freeway 80 MPH start speed) it would take the SL 6-8 secs for its rear bumper to pass my front bumper.

We came back to my house, and he was in disbelief: "What the hell is that thing?" he asked.

Call BS, Call it what you want. It happened.

For reference point: I absolutely WALKED a new Carrera S from 70-130 on highway 5 between O'side and San Clemente three days ago. I GAVE HIM THE JUMP and I still had him by at least 4 CLs by 130.

Just to give you an idea of the potential of your C32.

Not being cocky with the 450HP estimate. Simple question of real world experience with other new cars. First of all, I am only talking about highway races. The C32has major trac probs from a dig. IMO, it is a 13 flat car stock, but for the traction issues out of the hole.

So here is my dogma: On the hiway, as a general rule, I win against anything over about 8lbs/hp. I lose against anything below about 6 lbs/hp. In the 6-8 range, it gets interesting.

I don't trust dynos. I trust repeated real-world experience. By the experience dyno, my C32 is churning about 450 engine HP.

Happy racing,

Puke

Nice run. My experience with a Gallardo was slightly similar on a 60 mph roll. As the speeds got higher he would really start pulling on me!!!
I wish I ran the guy from a stop but that is a lil difficult to do in Mexico.

Was this a random encounter or it was setup? If the guy is a street racer, lemme know and I'll get my boys to shut down a mexican highway and we'll get some nice runs in . I'd love to run a Gallardo! My dad has one but he won't even let me hold the keys lol.

The only thing I find unbelievable is that the guy got a Superleggera as a "loaner"...

Not to be a downer...but what were you thinking racing with your boy in the other car?

First, I would never let someone else race with my kid...much less to 150 MPH...Second, I would never race with my kid in MY car.

Do these things ALONE if you must do them...and do them on empty streets.

/Parent Hat Off

Glad to see the Merc do well.

If you are really interested, feel free to PM me and I will give you the name of the shop. Those of you with any supercar ties here in San Diego probably already know which shop it is.

Really now, why would I make that part of the story up?

Peace out.

The Superleggera traps in the low 120's range. Either your friend needs some more time to familiarize that gearbox or you have one of the meanest C32's out there. Try racing from a dig next time...assuming your friend figured out the Lambo's launch control.

+1. a 120mph trap car vs. a 114mph trap car, at best? Slight driver mod needed.

Strong C32 for sure. Need some dyno/track numbers.

I was being a smart-@$$...commenting more on the other guys poor driving performance...not really getting into the whole lecturing thing. I am not saying you aren't right... just not commenting on that.

Superlaggera actually traps around 123-124mph, it is very fast.

are these actual traps or "magazine traps" ? I had the chance to race a bunch of Lambos one day, the Gallardo SL was by far the fastest but did not seem like a 120+ car to me.

Butt dyno's mean absolutely nothing unless your name is Schumacher.

C&D uses fully disclosed testing procedures, no powershifting and represents what 95% of owners can expect on a good day.

He didn't say butt dyno. He raced Gallardos and M5s on the highway and he is giving his oppinion based on how easily he overtook those cars. I believe Jason's car traps right around 120. He pretty much pulled on the Gallardos right from the start. I'm sure someone has the url for the videos he took.
