W211 E500 sport vs E39 M5 Dinan Stage 2

So let me start off by saying, by this time tomorrow, the E500 will be turned in as the lease is done. So this was a great way to send her off.

So earlier in the night I spent a good 2.5 hours with my buddy Mitch(photographer) shooting the E so I was feeling a bit proud of the car. After I dropped him off at his apartment, I headed home. I pull up to a red light a few cars back and hear this pretty sweet exhuast pulling up near me... I looked to the left and I see a polished exhuast peering out of the *** of an M5 Steel gray color...

Light turns green and I pull in right behind him and we are just slowly cruising... the road we are on goes from 2 to 3 lanes and then a 4th lane opens soon after. I pull in to the right lane and both me and the M5 are both next to each other but both behind 1 car... I have manually shifted in to 3rd gear, in sport 2(suspension), sport(transmission) and ESP off, and my car is revving at about 4k RPM.

when the lane opens from 2 to 3 lanes... I make a bolt for the empty middle lane and he pulls in behind me. He is a couple car lengths behind me... we are both gaining speed pretty quick... before I know it, he is just about pulling even with me at about 125-130... and then I see he stops accelerating, before I realize it, I was pegged on the govenor for a good 10-15 seconds where I walked away from the M pretty easily. I know he shut down and then I shut it down, to talk to the driver... He pulled up side by side and gave me the thumbs up, he then cruise controlled it at 70. We ended up both pulling in to the same gas station...

We chatted for a while, he told me what he had in there. While I know he didnt push it to anything close of its limits, I will accept the victory as a great send off to my E.

Cool guy, def a fun one tonight... tomorrow to the dealer with one extra one in the win column then I thought it would have

ML320, Looking for my S4
I'm going to miss that car. Nothing brings the food to a good ole Newport meet better.

Yeah, I ment Newport, not Bristol.

What mods did you do to your E500??? If your car is anything close to stock you had a victory over the other driver....because there is no way that your car would have been able to hang with it. I don't mean to spoil your send off...but an E500 would not be able to stay with an E39 540i let alone an M5. I know you mentioned he wasn't trying 100%...but like I said earlier...it was a victory over the other driver.....not the car...

mods on my car include, tint, air freshner and extra aerodynamic paint because of recent clay bar... With those mods there is no way he was catching me...

Of course I hope you know that I know you didnt read the entire thread because I know he didnt push the car to its limits and I mentioned it at the end, lol

I hope you know that I read your entire post....and you did post this in your "win column"..... and I will say it again since you didn't read my post clearly enough...put it a "win column" for you as a driver....not your car's...

lol same column for me... I know what you mean though...

a car is only as good as its driver. If I caught him on another day, and there was less traffic, he would of run it up to 160+ Im sure and I would be posting this story with a very different ending... but it didnt, and he was quite suprised at how much get up and go the 500 had...

That is exactly what I meant...the guy in the M5 didn't have the "sack" to do what was necessary to win and push the car....but 55fanatic did...so win goes to the driver with the bigger "sack".

Would an E500 really not even beat out a E39 540i?

I always thought it would..

Interesting,
of course he was not pushing the car to the limits.
E500 would not be able to even hand with E39 M5. Simply no match.
