Got my first race in the CL600...against an 04 Mustang GT
I'll start off by saying this was a buddy of mine that raced me out of the kindness of his heart. I kept complaining that nobody would race my car, so he said he would. We both knew I would win...but wow, had no idea by how much. Both races were from a dig with the patented 3 honk tree. And sorry this is kind of a boring story - but I was just so excited that I finally got to line up against something that I had to share.
The first time I bought the car up to 1900 rpm and let 'er rip. I managed to roast the tires and so he got the jump. I wound up running him down and beating him by a few car lengths. Now, I guess he didn't realize that I had spun, he thought my car was just a dog off the line; so he wanted to run again.
So, when we line up the second time I brought the car up to 1700 rpm and actually got a great launch. Just a little tire chirp, then the turbos spooled and I was gone. Jumped a couple car lengths quickly and I had about 4 busses on him by the 1/8 and it just got worse from there.
For those who will be wondering:
My car: 03 CL600, stock
His car: 04 Mustang GT, FIPK, Cat back, Hypertech, auto - so I'm guessing around 300hp?

If I could help ya I would...cause that would've kept you from posting...and that would've kept those nasty *** wheels out of my thread. So...I feel your pain!
Just did a little looking around and I see you have several posts in the Kill Stories section....but no kill of your own. Want me to see if I can set you up with the Bonneville his buddies were in?
Besides, you were warned in the first paragraph that it was a boring story. If it took you 20 second to make it to the warning then maybe you should spend less time here and more time with your Hooked on Phonics lessons.

I give the guy some props. I mean hey our first race has always been our memorable ones right? :-)
You should go up against a M5. On the freeway I went up against an M5 pretty good with an 03 CL6. Basically almost neck to neck. I thought I would have had him but I was surprised.
Also if you are ever thinking about mods you have to go with the Kleemann ECU Tune. Soooooo worth the money. I think its almost 60 -70 HP gain and 70-80 TQ gain i'm not 100% sure on that but I know its pretty high.
For the E55 guys

Yea, I really wanted to run something with a little (a lot) more power. That's why I'm not giving the guy a hard time for trying to run me, it was really a favor to me just to finally "race" it. It was, however, very useful because I have raced the same Mustang with my Formula, so it helps me to compare the Formula to the CL and I have a better idea of what I can beat up on and what will rape me.
I was really hoping for an M5, although I think the new one would spank me. The other cars I'm looking for are Vette's and Cobra's. Well...really, I don't know why I'm acting like I'm picky, I can't remember the last time I turned down a race. Hell...I even raced a Sunfire with my Hayabusa!
And yes, I do not plan on leaving this car stock for long. If I read right, the RennTech tune adds 132hp and 165lbs, so I'm sorta leaning that direction. I'm also wondering if this car would benefit from some head work and cams (if anyone even makes cams for them).

Does anyone know off the top of their heads at what RPM they idle at? it's got to be atleast 1000 right?
But I don't know if the E55 was moded. It probably was anyone taking their E55 to the track atleast has a pully upgrade.

Ferraris are high revving cars. When that thing is idleing you hear it. I like the sound of those exotics man, I don't know why but it bring tears to my eyes ![bow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)

The E55 ran a 12.9 @ 112mph...they do that stock, don't they?

Actually an 8 cylinder Mustang (not that it makes much difference). I much prefer drag racing, and I just can't see much fun in throwing a 4200lb land yacht around. And just for the record, I tried to run a faster car, but the following cars I tried to race declined:
03+ E55
Old body M5
06 STS-V
01 Camaro SS
04 Cobra
C5 Z06
Evo 8

Stock to stock, a E55 can smash on a F360 (in the straights). Really bad actually. A 360 (with all it's 270 lbs of tq) would get left for dead by a E55...

Huh? A properly driven E55 can run low 12s all day long. 12.0-12.4 is more like stock. That particular run against the yellow F360 was absolutely horrible; thinking about it, for both vehicles.

I hear you, believe me...a Mustang GT isn't my idea of a worthy opponent. Even when my Formula was stock (305 hp) I could run off and leave them. BUT, apparently, nobody believes that someone in a CL600 wants to race. Either that...or they figure a guy with a boat like that trying to pick a fight must have an ace in the hole (or 2 hairdryers)...
Anyway, if everything goes right I will be going to the local 1/4 mile track tonight, so I'll race my most worthy opponent there...ME...lol.

CL 600 - 493 HP @ 5000 RPM; 590 LB-FT @ 1800-3500 RPM
Renntech
ENGINE PERFORMANCE UPGRADES
1. RENNTECH PKG1
ECU and transmission computer upgrade
625 HP @ 5000 RPM; 745 LB-FT @ 1800-3500 RPM
132 HP Gain, 155 TQ Gain - Price= $5,400
2. RENNTECH PKG2
ECU, TCU, and carbon fiber (cf) airbox
640 HP @ 5000 RPM; 775 LB-FT @ 1800-3500 RPM
147 HP Gain, 185 TQ Gain - Price= $10,650
Kleemann
I didnt see the Kleemann price but they state " A sophisticated engine management system upgrade. Up to 627 HP and 1043 Nm (773 lb-ft) of torque."
My friend has a CL600 and he was looking into tuning the ECU, I remember he said Kleemann was a lot cheaper (I think $4,000)
Whichever one you go with doesn't matter because in the end you'r going to have a BEAST.
