C32 AMG vs SRT-8 Challenger
#26
I trade an '07 Jeep SRT-8 for an '09 C63.
As stated previously the Jeep was a beast off the line and seat of the pants feel is similar to the C63 up to 60 or so, but the Jeep was really a one trick pony. Lets not forget the whole picture here. The Benz is such a sweet ride with a exponentially better handling, braking and overall road manners. Plus I could never get better than 13.5 MPG and the ride bordered on punishing.
But it was really quick off the line and had a great exhaust note even stock.

I had a little run-in with an SRT-8 Charger last night that had at least a cat-back.
They're baby seals in my S4, but I thought this one would pull on the RS4.
He wouldn't ever line up with me to go from a dig (gee, I wonder why), but from a roll I was able to pull a bit up top. The Charger is 100lbs heavier but shouldn't suffer from as much drivetrain loss, and it's got 100ft-lbs more torque to boot. Maybe it's the gearing that limits them after 80mph. The RS4 likes its 5k-8k RPM range in 3rd and 4th gear.
They're definitely slower than they should be for 425hp, anyhow. A moderately modded C32 should be able to keep up or pull a bit as the speeds increase.

Charger SRT-8
Nice kill but...
Maybe cuz it's over estimated?
The compressors shut off at WOT. The light will stay on though. Unless someone can tell me different with FI AMG cars?
Classic dead spot in 2nd gear for the A5 SRT-8. Even without the video working that is easy to tell. I doubt he started at that speed in 1st gear. You wouldn't have left him that hard.
Same car for all practical purposes. No different than ours in straight-line performance and weighs a hair less. Identical powertrains.
I was not aware of C32s cutting 1.8s and low 1.9s on the street with street tires... First gear is fairly aggressive and traction management is key.
Suuuuure they are....
I notice my AC is on!!!!
Next up we get on another access road for about a 35ish -40 roll. This is where the video will finish up this story.
Suuuuure they are....

I was actually surprised to see this Challenger keep up so well.
My car isn't over estimated, it's just old with too many previous owners who didn't take very good care of it. If I had my C brand new, it would be atleast a 12.6 car with the same amount of mods that I have.
Here you are with an American car that just screams AGHRR look at me I am muscular and loud, get beat by a little C Class. I would be in denial too.

Charger SRT-8
I havn't seen a single SRT-8 break the 13's at the track. The fastest I've seen was a 13.3 procharged Charger on street tires.

And no C-class has beaten me either. But when you raced a tuned one who actually knows their gearing, be sure to let us know.

That was not posted to impress you. Also I've never seen or heard of a BONE STOCK c32 running better than that. Shoot, I've never seen a bone stock c32 run under 13. Plus in perfect conditions I would have ran faster. It was far from perfect condition. Negative DA, 40-50 degree, zero moisture on a track below sea level is more on the lines of perfect. Sorry for the high-jack...just wanted to reply to your post.

i havent read through this thread in a while, but i assumed you posted this to make a point. i never said it was a slow car, but it seemed that the way the DA and altitude were given it was brought up to make a point. a negative DA and a 40-50 degree setup is indeed perfect. heck, i would consider the 80 ft altitude and 800ft DA perfect. that is not FAR from perfect. out here, the best DA i have EVER raced in is 2800 at 70 degrees. 91 octane....usually i have to suffer through 5200 DAs. Welcome to AZ....come out here and your time drops to a mid 13 and your barely trapping a 100......
As far as a stock C32 running a high 12? In those conditions, hell yah. Definitely.

What is special about an SRT-8? Yes it has 425 horsepower, but it's a pig of a car with aerodynamics of a brick and how close does it come to the world's fastest sedan of the day the CTS-V?
Slightly moded Charger SRT vs my C32 might be coming soon, hopefully our faces don't caught in the camera again.

You expect a C Class built with 1990's technology to run 12s? . Did you know the fastest production sedan in the world at the time- E39M5 was running low 13's when the C32 was released. The C was almost on par acceleration wise with the heavier M5.

Charger SRT-8
An E63 ate my lunch before my tune. Best to best would be about a 3-4mph trap speed difference. That would be a fun loss.
Do you expect a 4200lb sedan with a pushrod motor to run 12s?
It's low 13s guaranteed with a 2.0 60ft and 172mph top end for $40k with handling on par with any other 4door of that size. So its a great bang for the buck.
It isn't 60k and it isn't supercharged so it isn't comparable to the V.
.355 cd with approx. 25sq ft of frontal area isn't exactly a brick either. Especially considering a Miata is a .38 and a Tesla is a .35. Looks can be deceiving.
