Seriously? Read post ten, both the post and the quote within the post. No-one claimed the 63 BS would beat a 65 in a straight drag all things being equal.

As vmspionage said, many external factors are at play during an impromptu run.

Carl, it's you that should concentrate, this guy said he was walked by a Z06
but not as badly as the CL. All I said was the 65 would walk the CLK, we saw the Z06 crucify the 65 so the guy who claims , but nearly not as bad as the CL must be lying!

If you go by these numbers the CL65 100-160km/h is 5.6 seconds and the CLK63BS is 5.2 seconds, even though the CL65 is quicker to 200km/h.

Oh totally man! My Z06 would spin at anything under 90mph lol. But with knowing that, that's why you set races up in advance at the speed your car will stick at. My CTS-V won't hook under 60 in the cold weather either so I just make sure the other guy races at 60. Otherwise it's ugly.

Actually it wasn't even a CLK63BS, I was lying about that too! I drive a JDM Honda Civic powered by AMG badges and wishful thinking. I could have swore I saw a Z06 badge on the back of that school bus!

All silliness aside, it happened like I said and I really don't care if you believe me or not. I got beat, but it wasn't anything like the CL in the video.

I don't mean to go further off topic but the fastestlaps.com cobbled together the CL65's times from a bunch of different publications. The 9.8s 0-160km/h time was lifted from a Sport Auto test where it did a horrendous 4.8s 0-100km/h. The 12.8s 0-200km/h time is actually from a W216 CL65 tested in Auto Zeitung. The 11.8s @ 120.9mph 1/4 mile time is from a Motor Trend test where the W215 CL65 ran 3.8s to 60mph and 8.5s 0-100mph. I haven't seen a 4.2s time 0-100km/h in any publication...but I have seen the 4.2s 0-60mph time published by MB USA. The best times in Europe for the W215 CL65 are from Auto Motor und Sport:
0-100km/h: 4.3s
0-160km/h: 8.7s
0-200km/h: 13.0s

I don't doubt it, but it's interesting that even in a controlled test these numbers could be off by over a second yet there are so many magazine racers who expect the quickest car to win the race in the real world every time. It's a bit like saying the guy with the best golf clubs always wins the match.

The trouble is once you told every one you got walked by a Z06, your on the hook, ( I know by experience ) and it doesn't matter how much you wriggle
you have blasphemed by saying that word " got beat", and then to go on trying to say that your car is as fast as a 65 ( lot's of touchy 65 owners out there) your digging your hole even bigger

However the op does show the 65 in a bad light, I for one would not say
" nice kill" especially if I owned one. There are some very fast cars out there, and when I bought my CL65 I thought I was invincible, how wrong I was.

I'm in the poo? Really? You're the only one that seems to not understand that any given Z06 in the real world won't be as fast as the one in the video. If anything my post was to infer that the 65 could have not been running right, left traction control on, was having traction issues, etc. I didn't say anything about the 63 being faster than the 65 at first; if you read my earlier posts even I admitted the 65 was faster!

Sorry if I hurt your feelings, I didn't realize that even mentioning I didn't get burned as bad as the guy in the video automatically makes me a liar because of course every Z06 in the world is at least as fast as that one, every time, all the time.

He said his personal experience of racing a Z06 head-to-head in his CLK63BS would have lead him to believe that the CL65 would have fared better. He went on to say that variations in driver/conditions could account for significant differences. I don't see any inaccuracies in those statements.

The Z06 really needs to be driven right. It's stick and you must be a good driver. Often, a lot of guys in the heat of a race will shortshift or even start out in the wrong gear. This video was an example of a well driven Z06. There were times where I'd leave my car in 5th gear and race Mustangs and such and beat them by a small margin. I'm sure they reported to their buddies "I got walked by a Z06" when in reality, I could have created a sonic boom and knocked them off the road :P

I was merely pointing out that anything he publishes will be scrutinized by members like yourself for inaccuracies, as you did!
I don't like this thread, it shows my favorite cars such as the CL65 being made a mock of. I don't care for members who said " nice kill"
When he said he was walked by one, but not as bad as the CL it put the CL in an even worse light as I would imagine the 65 beating the CLK black in a drag race. I suspect that the Z06 walked him just as bad, but he then went on to try and show on paper the CLK black was as fast as a 65, which sounds like an excuse!
I think we should drop it.

WOW.... I didnt know the Z06 is so fast... I really thought 65 or 63BS is one of the fastest in the street. Good to know, next time when I see a Z06 I know what not to do !

AMG's are my favorite cars as well. My intention isn't to rip on CL65 owners, I am sure with a tune and a few bolt-ons it would pull on me and if I happened to take a video of it, I would post it.

I honestly don't think this guy was that great of a driver (on an auto car lol), and anyone who knows how to turn ESP off and downshift to the optimal gear would probably do better than this. End of story.

The CLK63BS story is completely believable, thanks for sharing!

I've got a good friend of mine that has a Z06 with a few small bolt ons- cold air intake and bigger throttle body...and he's well versed in driving a 6 speed.....I know he'd get me from any speed, but I've always been curious as to "how bad" he'd walk me in my tuned 65. This vid doesn't give me a warm fuzzy....... That 65 got embarassed......I can't believe that car is that much slower........

I've seen vids of sl65 vs. z06 and it was nowhere near that difference. I wonder if this 65 was running right...

Z06's are absolute predators but that 65 seemed to barely be pulling away from the cars that were in the background.

Before any body else says nice kill, I am inclined to agree that somehow the performance of the 65 doesn't seem right, there's kill, and there's total massacre. It's never looked right to me.
