Corvette Z06 vs CL65 AMG *video*
So... went to a car meet in Mexico the other day and stumbled upon a very arrogant CL65 driver that thought he would beat anything out there with 612hp...

The W215 CL65 weighs in at a svelte 4,654lbs. ![Stick Out Tongue](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
It is all about power to weight ratios... stock for stock.. the CL65 has 7.7lbs/HP whereas the Z06 has about 6.2lbs/HP. That is a pretty significant difference.

Maybe poor wording on your part but I'd hope you know a CL65 is far faster than your CLK on the freeway let alone a Z06. If he didn't walk you like you threw on the handbrake then he needs to go to shift-school.

Agreed, poor wording on my part. I was just saying that I didn't get walked nearly as bad; it could have been because of speed at launch, what gear we were in, how far he downshifted, or whatever. Obviously the big TT V12 is a beast on the interstate compared to the V8 ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

By the way, next to your link there was a video of a CL65 getting walked hard by a Hamann F430. Don't what the hell they'd done to it but being NA the results were astonishing. I ran dead even stock-stock with an F430 coupe 70-140 a year or so back but it looks they can be tuned something rotten, unless that CL65 had issues.

The poor old CL certainly got a pounding. But in a straight drag I would have thought that a 65 would beat a CLK63BE, and yet it was mentioned that a member said he was walked but not as bad as the 65.

Thanks!
I was expecting the CL65 to be a little quicker, but not sure if he downshifted enough times or had the ESP on/off.
Hopefully I run into a tuned 65 some day to level the playing field.
Your car sounds better too!

You can't do what I would call "a race by proxy"...line them up and run them at the same time is the only way to do it.

On a drag strip, it often comes down to the 60' time. Plus the races don't go into the high speeds.
In a roll-on street race, tire spin and launching skill is taken out of the equation. It's strictly who's car is fastest. As long as both drivers stomp on the pedal at the same time, the end result will be the faster car winning.

This is true...but if you agree to the parameters of the race and both drivers are good and well experienced with their cars, I actually see this as probably being the best way to test pure speed of the cars.

Granted, I do agree that a roll-on race is a better gauge of a car's performance than a standing start.
