Cobras

Uh, does anyone want to talk about smoking Cobras here??

OP - nice kill. The 1998 Mustang Cobra SVT is a cool car with a sweet DOHC engine, nice pipes but only about 315 hp. A stock C55 can easily bust it. When my C32 was stock (not anymore) I turned a 13.52 ET to a buddy's 13.65 best but mostly 13.80's runs in his DOHC Cobra SVT. His car was not stock but only had bolt ons. He was in a word "Stunned". When he asked what was under my hood and was told a 3.2 liter V6, I thought I was gonna get to see a grown man cry, lol. I did not tell him about the blower. I think that a stock C55 is a bit quicker than a stock C32 right? By the way, I paid cash for both my AMG's

PS: The supercharged Cobras are in a completely different performance class in a straight line, but are still a pig in the corners unless highly modded. I do not mess with them unless I want to get embarassed.

Here is a link just for clarification: 3 C63's are in the 120's and I heard the Rennteck car just went 125+

I have a 1999 SVT Cobra which put out 315 HP. I hated the power delivery as it had 4 valves per cylinder motor you had to drive the **** out of it to get it to go anywhere. I did not like to have to push it hard to get it to go. I want my power right off of idle and not at 6000 rpm. I now have a 2000 clk430 and I am not going to say it is faster but it has much more bottom end power.

Can you imagine how bad an S2000 must be for people like ourselves who want the low-end grunt? I wouldn't say the 4 valves themselves is the reason, rather than camshaft profiles and even valve sizes, etc.

C63 motor is a 6.2L 32 valve which revs a high 7200 redline.Peak hp is at 6800rpm. Dont have to rev it to get the power. Instant trq on tap. It will leave my Clk55 for dead.

The s2k has a measly 2.0L motor. No low end power.

Funny you should mention CLK430 and 99 Cobra

My CLK430 does feel faster overall so I am not suprised it won on this youtube video. Both cars where convertible by the way. So Blackbenzz do you still have that supercharged clk?

Thats my CLK430 with a few mods. The modded cobra was faster just couldnt get traction out the hole. I'll take it

Yes I still have my supercharged CLK55. There should be some new times up next month or so. Our tuning day got postponed to March due to snow. Should be interesting if it doesn't break

Looked like the Cobra was reeling in the Clk430.

I wish these Mercedes where not so expensive to mod as I love my w208 convertible but want e55 power and am not willing to spend 15K to mod the car to do it. I remember back in the day when I had a 1989 mustang gt and had a kenne bell supercharged that got me about 100 HP for about $2300 and all the other mods like high flow cats, ram air, and such where so cheap on the 5.0.

The 98 and 99 Cobras had the same engine, both at 315 hp. RRich is right, it was biased toward the upper end of the rpm band with the serious power not coming until above 4k. In fact a 2000 GT had more bottom end grunt but only 275 hp. I still liked the revvy nature of the Cobra and the later 2003-04 Mach-I's. They are both fun cars. I have never driven a C55, but can say without doubt the C32 has tons of torque from 2k to redline. It is an amazing ride.

I cannot recall, my 60 ft times when I ran the Cobra. If you look for me on drag times, one of the slips is posted. But it was one against a Z28 which I also beat by 2 car lengths despite his trapping 1/100th better time (I guess I cut a better light, lol)

But, what I would add is that it is my experiance that an 03-04 Cobra that isn't pullied and tuned (at least) is pretty rare, and most have a few other supporting mods, and should beat a stock C63.
I would imagine you shouldn't have any trouble finding one to race. Most Termi drivers are ready to play at the drop of a hat.

To the OP, good kill but pretty predictable against a NA Cobra.
HOLY COW. I didn't check in this section for a while and was surprised to see it bulge into 4 page.

Anyways, I was surprised how easily I walked the cobra and then later found out it only had 315hp. It sounded pretty mean though with his custom pipes on.

As for the "Terminator" cobras, I know first hand that they're pretty quick. I raced a slightly modded convertible version at the strip and he was getting 12.7-12.9ish on slicks.

Now a friend of mine used to have a whipple'd mustang cobra that ran 10's all day and has a friend with a twin turbo mustang cobra laying down well over 700WHP. A felllow coworker has bolt ons and his stock SC and he's aiming for low 11's once his new built tranny goes in.

The supercharged cobras, modded evo's/sti's and c6 vettes are the only cars around here I can think of that will give me a run for the money or smoke me.
