CLK 350 '06 vs G35 coupe AT '05
Against what paper says, I beat my friend in his G35 coupe auto tranny '05 on majority of runs. His G35 was bonestock. All I have was K&N air filters. On the runs that I kind of messed up in, we were equally side by side. I didn't really pull much forward, but like I can see my car pulling inch by inch forward as we duked it out.
On paper, G35 coupe AT '05 has +12 hp, +12 ft*lb, -100 lbs curb weight on the CLK350.
I just wanted to share and brag about my accomplishment because G35 drivers are so cocky with their cars.

Interesting I owned a 2006 g35 coupe auto. When I got it I thought it was quick but quickly learned it wasnt. I was getting beat by everything, M3's, IS350, evo's, 01 S8...etc. Not too surprised about ur results.

I have taken many G35 Coupes. Honestly I'm surprised at the result that you had. I usually have them atleast 1 car. Once I went up against a 6mt with intake and exhaust (more of a roll from 5mph to 70mph) and it took a jump on me on second gear but like you I slowly creeped and had it by half a car. The autos minimum 1 car all day everyday.
The G37 is a different story. I only raced one and it seemed it didn't have muffler because it was loud and had 20" deep dish rims and he had me half a car. I'm blaming the rims and lack of back pressure for the outcome.
My mods:
19" VOLK Progressive ME (22lbs front and 22.8lbs rear without tires)
Remus exhaust
I had a G35 Sport Sedan chase me down on the freeway and he couldn't catch up. There is no way the 350 engine is 40hp less than the G35. The car should have obliterated me and same goes with the G37.
I know people have dynoed the 350 engine at 220 -225 (i can't quite remember) but it's completely different than paper I don't get how that can be.

It would be absolutely no surprise if a car with a lower rated crank HP amount beats the other due to powerband.
Example - The 335i even in stock form with a claimed 300 HP will run the quarter mile in 13.2 - 13.3 @ 105-106. The G37with a claimed 332 HP will run the quarter mile in 13.7 - 13.8 @ 102. Why is this you ask? The power curve itself.

The 350Z is rated at 287 crank HP (at least 03-04) and they dyno like 235-240 roughly depending on the dyno. The problem is you are at peak HP for maybe 200 RPM before you slightly taper at redline.

Ohh that makes perfect sense. Basically you have the power but how is that power delivered?

. It pulled next to me (sedan) so I thought it was a 328i and we went at it. I for a second thought something is wrong with my car until I saw the 335i badge. It had 6 cars on me ![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
