Ferrari Challenge Stradale vs Very Proud Lexus
Maybe 'tis the season, but it has been awfully quiet on the 'challenger' front.... until early Sunday morning!
I was on a very wide open section of freeway that leads to a very interesting 3/4 mile uphill ramp, with a high speed left hand sweeper that crests the hill and heads back down. What makes it interesting is there is a bit of a bump at the apex, and since it is also at the crest of the hill, the car is a little light and can upset things, but nobody traveling at normal speeds would even notice it.
Anyway, back to Mr. Lexus. As I start to move right to head for the ramp, I catch a glimpse of a big 4 door Lexus, with some sort of aftermarket exhaust. He sees me wanting to move over in front of him and he motions me over. He then begins to tailgate me. In response I gently squeeze the trigger as I don't really want to give this guy any ideas. He continues to match my pace and moves ever closer to my bumper, and then he moves left and punches it.... OK, game on!
We have about 1/2 mile left of the uphill ramp, and I blip down 2 gears and unleash on him. I easily left him, but he was obviously still trying. I am more interested with how I need to set up for the corner at the top of the hill than what this guy is going to try. If he was going to attack this corner at the speeds we were approaching, he is either very good, or that is more than just a 4 door Lexus.
My entry speed is, lets just say 'movin' right along'. I turn in, head for the apex, take the bump mid corner, and hold on as the CS skips about a foot (I love P Zero Corsa tires), and squeeze on more throttle and unwind the steering. My exit speed was was closer to the double ton, than the ton. Very exciting stuff!
A great corner, and a great car, but as I look in my rear view mirror there is no Lexus....... 5 seconds, 10 seconds, then almost 15 seconds later, I see him exiting the top of the hill! By this time I have more than backed out of it and am at a much more reasonable pace... but here he comes!
I was fully expecting the ricer fly by, but to my surprise he slows, and gives a thumbs up, shakes his head in disbelief, followed by a :urtheman I waved back and we went on our way.
Sometimes a bit of fun can come in all sizes of packages..... even 4 door Lexi's. Merry Christmas!

I am not a big Lexus spotter, but it was one of their big 4 door sedans. It had a couple of huge exhaust pipes that were pretty noisy.
He either wanted to have a go, or he wanted a little aural and visual show. If it was the former, he was being silly. If it was the latter, he got his money's worth!

OK, I'll have to do some new ones.
I worked with an Indycar fabricator to do that exhaust. The headers they designed are a work of art. That along with the rest of the exhaust (or lack thereof) , and our ECU work has yielded a healthy increase in power, and that great sound. As a result we have started producing headers and exhausts for the 360/430.
I have gotten used to it so much that I don't think its loud. I inspected a stock CS for a client the other day and I thought it sounded like vacuum cleaner!
We've also just done a header back system for the new Camaro, that added 50hp.... before we even touched the ECU! My SL55 is next!

I haven't experienced any loss of the CS, the Scud or the Chevy.
Dialing the software in for the new flow helped as well. I should have taken some pics of the headers before the install. The fabricator is brilliant. He is using his knowledge from Indycar and translated it for us.
One of the advantages that we have is the use of a dyno to get it right from both the exhaust and the software sides.
Here's a small sampling of the work.
