CLK550 vs E92 M3

CLK550 vs E92 M3
I own a 2007 CLK550(stock) and I have been watching a couple fellow posters talk about how they beat new BMW M3s with their car and seen the round and round debate from Mercedes/BMW forums. I kind of wondered myself, but yesterday this debate was answered for me. I live on the Westside of LA and two guys in a newer model M3 coupe clearly wanted to race me at a light. As I'm getting older(and more sane) I usually don't take bait, but they looked so asking for it with their well manicured coifs and sunglasses, I said why not? We raced about three times at different speeds up until maybe 85ish and clearly the CLK is at least as fast. Each race I was able to pull ever so slowly on him. I'm not sure what would happen at high speeds, but it was clearly close and I pulled slowly each time. Now surely posters will debate the extra guy in the M3, but I had two 45lb Olympic weights in my trunk and a full complement of groceries. It felt great to wipe the smile off the drivers face, but they were chill about it as well. End of the day, I know my little sleeper CLK will at least hang slightly ahead or behind a new M3 in most scenarios. An M3 would kill me on the curves and looks nicer, but I'm happy that my car is hanging with good company.

Troll? Ha! Give me a break. I'm a 39 yr old executive that happens to enjoy cars and had one recent observation for my car. This race is actually the only time I've actually raced this car against anyone. To answer the one poster, the driver/passengers looked to be two thin guys who probably weighed no more than 160 a piece. Hard to tell from faces and shoulders, but I'm guessing its close. Nonetheless, story is true and it was a fun semi-race that showed me that the CLK550 is a decent performer and underrated. not a supercar by any means, just a fun Mercedes sleeper.

Geez, I guess I won't post again. My post of a Mercedes victory on a Mercedes board and I get accused of BS. Kind of pathetic. Btw, to the one guy who posted here with a C63 that used to have an older CLK55 that trapped 13.1 at 109. Hmmm...that car had 20 less horsepower/torque and a slower tranny than the newer 7spds on the CLK550 and yet by all accounts, that's a pretty typical m3 time. Most M3s trap high 12's/low 13s. VERY realistic that a CLK550 can be slightly slower or faster than an M3. Similar to the new Mustang GT comparos.

Yea these cars seem to run about the same times in the 1/4 mile.. And plus with the extra weight in the m3, it was deff in your favor.. Not to mention the m3 has ZERO torque and doesnt get into its power until high revs..

If you post in kill sections, you gotta have thick skin. I don't think anyone jumped you very hard. It's just an expression of surprise. Hey......good kill !
BTW......"trap" refers to MPH, not elapsed time.

CLK & GL
this is like the 5th person that has a thread like this. Its not like we all ran the exact same m3 with the same driver. Idk how everybody still blames the "m3 driver" for losing

Kbahl21 said it best. Clearly this site has numerous postings of the same or similar outcomes. I could care less if I won or lost, I just was happy with a REAL world result that I experienced after wondering about past postings and my car. I would have posted a loss if that's what occured. It didn't in this case. If I lose, I would post it. Now guy with old CLK55 and new C63, go get your 63 checked out, because just about EVERY race I've ever seen (posting, vidoe or magazine) has the 63 easily beating the 6spd M3. Now the DCT would be a close race, but mmmm not a 6spd. And another FYI, your CLK55 weighs 3500lbs vs the 550 weighing 3700lbs and having 40 horsepower more and a 7spd transmission. Clearly should be faster!

There's quite a few of these claims for the CLK guys but not a single video to my recollection. I think it's time for someone to capture this, even if it's on a crappy cellphone, then post the kill story. I wouldn't post that I beat a Ducati 1098 unless I caught the whole thing on video.

P.S. Nobody signs up to a forum to post a kill story, try harder next time.

Most likely bad driver in the M3 if this were the true outcome buddy boy. Many people I see can't shift a manual properly when it comes to racing.
DCT on the other hand is much easier and faster.

E92/90 M3's are mid 12's at least at just under 115mph trap on street tires.
