I drive the racism out of BadDebt. ;)
Got destroyed....
Well, my clk320 isn't to much to brag about...but came across a SRT-4 neon...
It was a uphill battles with fairly tight turns....off the line, we were neck and neck with him beginning to creep away; as we hit the steep incline, he starting pulling away until we hit the corners, I manage to keep up, but as soon as the lanes got straight he would walk me like theres no tomorrow...
My car stock...his car was tuned, 3" exhaust and CAI...
I smiled, gave him a thumbs up and drove away smiling, cause I still drive a benz.

Not exactly correct. They are pretty stout cars. The stock block can handle up to about 450-500whp. The problem is that due to the low price, they are easily bought by younger drivers who lack driving skill and common sense. This is what has caused their limited numbers to dwindle even more. That being said, they are fun little cars that can be made to go stupid fast for not a lot of money. I had one years ago that had every bolt-on possible, including Mopar's stage 3 turbo upgrade, and it was a monster. A big turbo upgrade, full suspension upgrade, big brake kit, and you've got a racecar driving on the street.

Those kinds of numbers aren't very uncommon anymore. Some of them are running in the 9's now. A lot of big turbo SRT-4's out there running in the mid 11 second range and trapping mid 120's. They aren't to be taken lightly.

They're worse than Fox-bodies -- 90% of them are loud, and you have no clue whether it will run a 9.XX or a 13.XX until you line up.
As with Mustangs, the most conspicuous ones are usually the slowest... the stealthy ones sneak up and bite ya.

Yep, the element of surprise. I've got a buddy who is building up an 1,100 whp SRT-4 that is going to have the sleeper look.

Yep, so your best chance against them is always from a dig, but even that isn't a given because they have traction control mods that help them get off the line quickly now. Those cars are definitely beatable, but there is no shame in losing to one.

I'd say your best bet is to just avoid racing altogether. A CLK320 isn't going to win many drag races...so why give the Neon owner the satisfaction?

There will always be faster cars. There will always be nicer cars. Sometimes, there will be faster nicer cars. As long as you enjoy what you drive, and it meets your needs, who cares if you get killed in a race? Congratulate the winner, and know that someday you'll get a W and he'll see someone else's tail lights. I beat an E63 at the track last week, and that same night I had my @ss handed to me by a GT-R. But I had a blast both times. We're all in it for the same reason

A very valid point, this.

However, do often do people daily drive Ferraris or those 1500whp Lambos? Are they luxurious and have more than 2 doors like Mercedes and comforts? No... As a matter of fact, I bet the average Ferrari or Lambo owner has a Mercedes, BMW or an Audi as a daily driver and loves it.
Bentley and Rolls Royce on the other hand... Maybe they might look down on Benzes etc. But they usually don't.

Honestly, he'll still lose but it will be closer. He would need a CLK55 and a good tune to have a legit chance of winning.....and it will still be close.

Yep, they may or may not have as much money, but still have a passion for performance cars nonetheless. Always have to respect that.
