C32 vs M5
My car has 2000kms on it now and just passed the break in period a week ago.
I were cruising on UBC highway in Vancouver around 5:00pm this evening. While crusing a spotted a BMW 5 series coming really quick.
I didn't give my car gas because i was coming up to a red light.
I were in the right lane so the BMW switched to the left lane and we lined up together before the red light. The BMW driver rev his engine and made my attention and i discovered it is the M5! I've to say the deep tone from the M5's exhust is really really nice! The M5 has 4 people on it and i were alone.
So when the light turns green, i give my car a little bit gas and see if the M5 driver wants to play. The M5 driver starts very slow and then hit the gas to catch up. I hit the gas as well and put a good 3-4 car length on him until i slow down at 160km/h. I slow down back to the speed limit and the M5 driver just follow my car and doesn't want to pass me anymore. :p
i seems unreal to me because i don't think my car can beat the M5.
May be he has 4 people in the car and give me adventage. I think it will be a different story if the M5 driver is alone.
I hope you guys enjoy the story and have a merry christmas!
The M5 with 3 extra passengers means it's at least 400 lbs heavier and will surely lose to the C32.
u should have pulled nxt 2 him and apologized for taking advatage of him... haha
or he should have told his passengers 2 get out of his car while he raced u =P
Good kill! What`s the fastest you`ve gone on the UBC highway BenzC32? Going towards SW Marine, Ì`ve hit 170km/h.
The fastest i've gone is with my Volvo on highway 1. I reached 260km/h.
omg... 4 ppl??? 3 passengers?? thats not even a fair race! m5 or not!

Just leave M5s to our bigger brother, W210 or W211 E55.

I've hit 180km/h on the UBC highway with my C32. The car is still new and i don't want to hurt the engine. :p

Did you do this going from SW Marine or from UBC?

C32, but it is also about four hundred pounds heavier. So, looking at the weight/power ratio for both:
M5 = 4024 pounds/394 horsepower = 10.21 pounds/hp
C32 = 3540 pounds/349 horsepower = 10.14 pounds/hp
Pretty even, and the tested performance figures in the car mags bear this out: both cars test in the high 4 second range 0-60, and in the mid 13's in the 1/4 mile. And don't forget: those magazine test times are not gotten with Joe Average driving, they are the best times with a pro driver at the wheel. This is worth noting because on a manual-transmission car like the M5, it is difficult to time and execute shifts cleanly and perfectly each and every time, i.e., Joe Average doesn't drive nearly as well as Joe Test Driver in most cases!

Otoh the C32 is an automatic, so it's just punch it and go. No poorly-timed shifts or missed shifts to worry about, so even under the best circumstances, the C32 should run about dead even with the M5, but one mistake by the M5 driver and the C32 wins.
Also, if the M5 has more passengers, the weight/hp figures above shift to the C32's favor, or vice-versa if the C32 has extra passengers. In this case, the M5 had three extra passengers; if we assume 175 pounds/passenger, that's an extra 500 pounds for the M5, which will really, really slow it down: in a 1/4 mile race, each 100 pounds subtracts about 0.1 second from the car's time, and each 0.1 translates to a carlength. He claims to have won by five carlengths, which is just about exactly what I'd expect adding 500 pounds to the M5, assuming the M5 had a good driver (sounds like it did). Nothing outlandish about his claim at all. Without the extra passengers, it problably would've been pretty much even-steven.
i just realized that the c32 is an AMG. that changes thing. but still from the places i looked it shows the m5 is more powerful. i know power isnt evenything but the diffrence is pritty significant. also i driven a c32 and i wasnt that impressed. iv also driven an M5 and hell yeah i was impresssed. by the way i work valet at Woodmont Country Clud, on the the finest clubs on the east coast, so we get alot of nice cars.

By the way, please find out the spec. of each car before you say anything.:o

second off the reason why i think a m5 is faster is becuase of the simple fact that the transmission is manual. it has a clutch which means that if gets 100% power to the wheels. The cl32 has an automatic. yes you can manually shift but it still has a torque converter. this mean you only get about 80% (maybe more)power to the wheels especially on take off. the cl32 is a very quick car (quicker than any car ill have soon) but i honestly think the m5 is faster.

A few months ago, Car & Driver tested both of these cars. The M5, with a pro test driver at the wheel, ran a 13.4@108, while the C32 ran a 13.6@106. The difference is, and this is based upon lots of dragstrip experience, most drivers cannot drive and shift as well as pro test drivers! And even those who can cannot do it perfectly, time after time. This is why bracket racers use automatics: consistency! The run-to-run variations with a manual transmission car are enormous.
So, in real-world encounters, nine times out of ten, the C32 would win, simply by virtue of the fact that most people will NOT run a 13.4 1/4 in their M5, each and every time, if ever.
And that's in a standing-start race; once you remove the launch advantage of a manal tranny and go from a roll, when the launch only got it a 0.2 sec margin of victory best case, guess what? You've got a pretty even race. Add 500 pounds of extra weight to the M5, and guess what? It loses. Period. acceleration = force/mass. Increase mass, acceleration decreases. Physics still works!
And I just love it when someone who hasn't raced two cars comes in here and tells people who have that they're wrong. The fact is, he was there, you weren't. I mean, sheesh, the fact that you have valet-parked a few fast cars hardly makes you more of an expert on their performance capabilities than someone who owns and drives them!
first off i was thinking of a c320. i know that a c32 is amg but i was reading to quickly ths first time and didnt realizw it. and yes iv driven both so butt out. here is where i checked the spec. you can check yourself if you want moron.

Secondly, you first thought the car is C320 then why did you reply with 'The M5 will blow away the C32'? Does it mean you don't know what C32 is?
Thirdly, if you don't even know what C32 is, then why could you post 'enough to know that a m5 would blow a c32 away'?:p
Who is the moron now?

Then, in his response, jonus079 wrote am i hearing this correctly??? a c32 vs m5. no way!! im sorry but i cant believe that c32 could beat an m5 even with 4 or whatever people in the car. no way!! and believe me when i say iv driven them all and pushed a little. enough to know that a m5 would blow a c32 away.
So, that is a grand total of six "C32"s so far, and then he has the audacity to write: c32 is an AMG. that changes thing...also i driven a c32......then, later...first off i was thinking of a c320. i know that a c32 is amg but i was reading to quickly ths first time and didnt realizw it.
I guess he was not only reading too quickly, but writing too quickly as well when he wrote "C32" three times in his original reply! A particularly odd thing when you consider he driven a C32!! Yet he didn't realize it was an AMG, even though he drove it...(must've missed that big "AMG" badge on the back, or the one on the steering wheel, or the speedometer)...
Firstly, in your last post, you said that you just realized that the c32 is an AMG. How could you say you know C32 is amg in this post?

But i'm sure i will lost to the M5 at the speed over 100mph. M5s are monsters at high speed compare to my car.

Well said!:p

BTW, our C32s have 100% torque convertor lock-up feature which means power delivery should be more efficent then a standard auto.
