"ooh, my cadilac will do .002% better on the 1/4 mile, i own you"

ok, would you rather have the luxary and performance and safety that mercedes benz has always and always will have with their products or have an american made veichle (who have stayed up there in quality for years over any american made car).

i'll stick with mercedes, it will turn more heads and get respected more in the community than the cadilac.

It depends on who's driving each car! If you were in the M3, and Brad Pitt (before marriage) was in the CTS-V, I'd bet that you're WRONG! The CTS-V is a nice car, but would I take it over an E55......Not in this lifetime!!

I am embarased to say that I have owned Cadillacs. All they do is perform in fast in straight acceleration. I don't think that you can say that they put ANY MB to shame since it is very easy to design a car to just be quick in the 1/4 mile or 0 to 60.

I lived in Germany for 3 years and drove a plain 190E 2.3 5 speed and I drove it very very hard. Every time I raced (yes actually raced) with a 5.0 mustang or another American sports car I left them in the dust due to endurannce. There was a 4.6 Stang that actually blew something in the cooling system when trying to pass me! They could get ahead of me, but they could not maintain 125 MPH for longer periods of time. Not to mention, they had rear drum brakes and undersized front disks that were garbage when you had to stand on your brakes when some idiot pull out in front of you at 65 mhp and you are driving 120.

MBs are a well rounded perfomance/confort car. Cadillacs heve gotten better but they are not the same as any German car. It is a totally different design concept. If they make a Cadillac that actually can corner, then it rides like crap for everyday driving. They can get both.

A tuned 1972 Chevy Chevelle will outperform you Cadi, does that say anything?

Just my opinnion and personal experience.

I didn't read the whole thread but here is my opinion anyway.

Cadillac = Junk I worked at a Cadillac dealer as a porter when I was in High School (many years ago) and I remember brand new Cadillacs with horrible problems. Remember the old aluminum engine eldorado engine 4.6? There build quality and parts are crap. I ordered parts a few times for Cadillacs (not mine) and these cars just made me laugh. I don't care if the Cadillac made 550 whp and was $19,500 brand new its still a junk Cadillac (depreciation) and wouldn't buy one. Its just like the Neon SRT-4 yeah its fast for the money but at the end of the day even if it runs 10's in the 1/4 mile it's still just a Neon. Sorry for the reality check.

Side note: Im not convinced that newer German cars are built that great either.

I say you guys are being harsh. The CTSV is a good car for the price. And with upgrade it can be a very good proformer. This car does very well in SCCA races and it did well in American Lamans series. I have have to say it is not at the level as a benz. But with the left over money you can have somthing equal or something even better then a benz. You guys should stop looking a symbols and just look at the car as it is.

The Caddy is a POS. Mutiple problems, including, trans, electrical, etc. It isn't cheap either. I will say it's a step beyond where they were even 5 yrs. ago, but GM has a lot to learn still. It test drives fairly well, but ask an owner what they think after 6 months or so. My neighbor would trade his new Caddy for my almost 3 yr. old E55 in a heartbeat. 'nuff said. :p

this is a base model cts with 18" wheels, and a vette motor. Sounds real reliable.......here's a caddy story.....my mom bought a brand new caddy...everytime it rained there was a 1/2" of water on the passanger floor....it was taken back everytime. they said they replaced the weather stripping about 8 times. finaly she got a hold of a big shot at cadilac and they sent the car to the main factory and took it apart to try and find the problem...........The whole car was built 1/4" off center. so no matter what there was a 1/4 gap somewhere....nice huh? The only good thing was they gave her a new one the next year up. A year later she traded it in for a new special eddition corvette...BIG mistake......P.O.S......conclusion....CTS-V = looks good but deffinitly not even coming close to puting a c-class to shame.

Yup; I've heard the same from my neighbor. Rattles everywhere after 6 months. My 2001 is still solid, except for the rear shelf where the deck rattles when I play the radio too loud. But, that rattle has been there since we bought it in Dec. 2000.
