Ran into a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
I was heading out to a place called Canyon Lake (in AZ) that has a great access road of about 10 miles of short straights and switch backs. There is basically another 10 mile stretch before it tightens up that is essentially straight.
As I am on the stright portion I see (and hear) a red car with a center stripe. As he gets closer I can tell that it is a 360 CS....which is Ferrari's latest, lightest, street racer...and a very cool car.
I let him past and took up the chase! When we got to the twisty bits, I was finding that he was holding me up, and he wasn't about to pull over. So...I set him up coming out of a right hander with a short straight heading to a left hander that continued up the hill (one can see several turns ahead at this point and there was no traffic)...I out accellerated him down the straight...out braked him into the left and took the lead up the hill.
His car sounded great until I got about 4 corners ahead...at which time he just faded into the distance.
I stopped at the lake and waited for him...but he wouldn't stop and chat...he just looked straight ahead and scowled.
I have had the SL55 at the track on several occassions with similar results on everything from Porsches to Vettes and all the rice burners....well done AMG!
I try to get to the track on a regular basis and I'm ALWAYS trying to get my Fcar buddies to come along and learn...but they never do!
Then they wonder when we're on a drive and I leave the group of 550's, 360's and 355's for dead with a 348 Challenge!
Have a great day!
When I drove a 360 Spyder F1 through some mountain roads, the owner was white as a ghost! I never got it over 140 which is only about 5 MPH faster than my sedan!
To each his own, right?

I got my car at Shumacher and I get it serviced there. If you are up for some Merc get togethers I have a couple of friends with SL55's...perhaps we could all get together.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Great to hear that you are 'exercising' at the track. Always a great place to hone your skills and push the envelope.
I know what you mean...I have driven some of my buddies Fcar with them as passengers. They are generally white when we are done and they invariably say, "Gee, I didn't know that my car could do that....I wish I could do that".
Maybe they could if they drove their cars more and went to the track and took driver's schools. Oh well...

Hey, whose old CART ride do you have?
A lot safer at the track than on the highway. Besides, track time gets me prepared for driving in EU!

I love driving in the EU....but I keep reading that even they are becoming speed *****!
It was one of Kevin Kogan's Machinist Union cars from the 1987 season. I'm not sure if it had a huge amount of race time or was a spare car...but it is huge fun.

Where do you drive it?EU is cracking down in the big cities. I think it is more of a revenue generator than anything else.
Small world! Kevin Cogan got his rookie start at Indianapolis in my father-in-law's Phoenix/Cosworth. He was the highest finishing rookie (4th) that year but they gave the Rookie of the Year award to Garza who crashed and finished 23rd. Politics suck!

I have noticed the cities are more patroled in the EU as well.
Sorry, was off for a day and 1/2, and didnt check the boards, I service at Schumacher also, Ken and Ben take good care of mine, and my wife's CLK 320. It would be nice to get together with some fellow AMGers. We should try to figure something out, though my measly ML doesnt quite fit in with the SL's and F cars
