280SE vs. Newer Vette(I was pulling on him at least)

So, were cruising down Hwy 509 coming into Tacoma , Wa, and there is a red light. Me in my 4.5 and this young guy in his Vette. Now I was all over him in traffic so as the light turns green, he launches the Vette. My 4.5 doesn't have that kind of acceleration, but i did manage to start catching up after about a half mile. I finally slowed it down as we topped 130mph. He ended up at the same place as me an asked , "what the hell is under grandpa's hood?"
The moral of the story is I like toying with unsuspecting drivers.

Many here probaly don't know what a 4.5 is but I did surprise a few when I used to have one. Beatiful cars, now it's time to introduce the masses to the mighty 6.3

LOL! Good one. Hey, does anyone know the specs pf a W116 450SEL? My aunt had one and i'm not sure what the specs are. Too bad it wasn't a 450SEL 6.9.

If I know the 4.5, those cars have real sweet spots at the higher end.

As far as the 6.3....Pity me, I have never been in one, nor driven one. Question: Are they easy to maintain?

Remember its torque which you feel in acceleration. I wonder what a 6.9 feels like. Its probably the same extreme rush of emotion when you accelerate as when you pay for your first tank of gas after "joy-riding". Even if it is a rush to opposite sides of the spectrum....

6.3 are not too easy to maintain and they need to be driven. There are also not too many mechanics who know those cars well and I would not trust a mechanic who never worked on one. If you think of getting one spend lots of time on www.m-100.cc and www.m-100.net. 4.5 are easier to live with but equily thirsty for fuel in my opinion. In NY there is a mechanic Neil Dubei of Start Motors in Endicott NY. He has a site www.300sel.com and there are some good articles on maitenance. He is a pro like no other who knows those cars in and out. If you car is all sorted out that means that you either got it from someone who did all the work and paid around 12-15000 and up or you did all the work yourself or paid someone to do it. Once sorted out than it's just maintanance like with any other car but + things related to 6.3 for example like air suspension, important to empty the reservoir air tank under the left fender to remove moisture from the system every other week, do not adjust injection pump while the car is running (it will ruin it and pump will need to be rebuilt) and stuff like that. Overall I am just getting deeper into the 6.3 world and will soon be making my 6.3 more road worthy by changing all of the rubber lines under the hood, fuel filters (2 of them) check brake lines, 6.3s have vented disks front and rear, quite impressive for this age of car. Those cars are fast but not amazingly fast to todays standards BUT if you look at all the luxury those cars had when they were in production + the 300hp and 434 ft. lbs at 3000 rpm then this is the ultimate sleeper. For more info on those cars go to www.m-100.cc or www.m-100.info and you can see some 6.3 s on a drag strip on www.300se.com

After seeing pictures of the 6.3, that must be one of the most beautiful cars in the world ever produced.

I could never own one. They'd rust living next to the ocean sitting outside in NH.

Thanks for the links. I can always dream, I guess. :o
