Anyone: 2004 E320/500 vs. 2004 BMW 530i/545i

My boy just got his 2004 BMW 530i and was interested in seeing how it performs against the E. Being that I am on thin ice w/insurance and points, I enthusiasticly shut down his offer to race him. I am wonderin' if anyone here in the E-class department has gone up against the new 5 and what were the results....??

Thanks...

if you want to stay with a 530 you will need a chip or pulleys..
a 530 auto will beat you off the line, however highway might be a different story..
if its a stick you will need evo pulleys and chip and he will still edge you out by a few hairs... if its an auto with both these mods i beleave you will win...

i have beaten 530i b4 (auto) but i have both these mods.. and i can stay even with a 530 stick and a 330xi stick all the way threw my gears but remember a c320 is lighter than the E.. i also have 4-matic which puts 80 ibs to my car but it really has no effect on my et's and am able to get a great launch off the line in any weather or road conditions...

I doubt a 530i will do damage to an E320 but I guess it all depends on not only what kinda car and **** you got but the driver utilizin those features...

the 3.0 in the bmw lacks low end torque(so ive read), so the E320 would probably be ahead at launch, if the bmw is an auto..don't know what would happen after that though

Gain

if my car was running say 15.2 or 15.4 i took the 15.4 from the person on this forum that ran their c320 wagon and thats what he got and a friend i know that also ran his c320 sedan 15.2.. also understand conditions were different for each run as where it was a relatively warm day for the 15.4
and it was a cool day for my friend that ran 15.2 (stock)
i would expect my car to run anywhere from 14.7 to 15.0 depending on weather and gas in the car.. will find out sometime soon want to visit raceway park in oldbridge this august..
ill tell you this thou from racing my friends cars just messing around in floyd bennet they noticed my car had gotten faster when i installed my pullies more than when i got my chip.. they said my chip was good for first gear and 4th gear 4th gear was a dramatic difference with the chip you cant tell unless youve done your own test like racing friends cars consistently or track. racing around with different cars proved off the line was better second gear slight pull 3rd gear felt no different 4th gear pulls away much better.. even with cars that would win they would not pull as far away i would be significantly closer to them.. with the pullies it made the difference between staying neck and neck with cars that would beat by some distance and whoever was neck and neck i would beat them everytime consisitently...

maybe someone at evosport could put there input in how much they think the pullies helped in terms of ets?

anyway ive only had my car back for a week now and have not yet raced my friends gtp... however i stay neck and neck with my friends g35X till 80, my friends acura tl (270) stay in front till 70 with him starting to pull around and around 90 he overtakes my car and i come back at excess speeds of 115 i pull by 125 hes a little in front of me this is with him using tiptronic..

however this is all bullsh*t till we go to the track and see real 1/4 mile times street racing is useless to find out how fast a car is we will take it to the track and ill get back to you guys

Well, I just picked up a 545i SMG, and would be happy to go up against an E500 on a proper dragstrip (read: no street racing of any kind). Do you know of any dragstrips in NJ? I know there's something in Englishtown, but quite frankly, I've never been to a dragstrip before, so I'll need someone to tell me what to do so I won't look like a complete jackass! Oh yeah, and any driving hints would be welcome, too.

that would acutally be a pretty good line up, but i think in a 1/4 mile with you having the smg would take the e500.. I dont think it would be anything of a major kill thou..
