ml 500 wanders
some of you guys will remember that i am having issues with the steering on my 2004 ml500 'wandering'. meaning, it feels like it wants to pull left or right all of a sudden out of nowhere. i have taken to my mb dealer, and they tell me that there is nothing wrong with my truck. i have owned several ml's in the past and none have exhibited this characteristic in the past. this ml when new did not do this. i am really annoyed with this issue. i bought new tires, had it aligned... and mb checked out suspension.. nothing. any thoughts??

I think it's a matter of finding a good alignment guy as it's sort of an art. My 03 steering was perfect. Then after replacing a tie rod end under warranty the steering wheel was out of center and pulled right. I brought it back and they aligned it ( they didn't initially after doing the work! ) and now it is off the other way and pulls the other way on "crowned" roads. If I had more time, I would bring it back again but I do have better things to do than hang around in the service area.

If this were happening to me, and I had done what you say, I'd be looking into the power assist portion of the steering system. Seems like there would be a fault of some sort in the valve gizmo that determines whether the hydraulic fluid is sent to the right steer or left steer assist. There is some control valve that does this connected to the steering wheel. But MB should know this. If you are getting nowhere with one dealer - try another, and be forceful - they're not all the same. But MB has always made good on my 'issues', although they are hesitant at times and I'm sure I can here my SA repeating the corp. talking pages directly.
