How to remove outside black window trim?

Does anyone know how to remove the outside black trim for the rear window? Its the one that surrounds the entire window including the quarter window. The stupid thing started to peel and the service dept did not install the new part properly. I'd rather do it myself if I can rather than bringing it back. My service dept - MB of Devon in PA sucks. Time to look for new dealer. Thanks.

Do you mean the 2 strips that are hard plastic that are between the rear window and the rear-side windows? One on each side. If these are the ones you are talking about, you need to either break them off in pieces or you can make something out of some thin strong wire and 2 handles so that you can get the wire part behind the plastic so cut through the glue that holds them on. Its kinda hard to describe. As you slide the wire back and forth, it will heat up and melt the glue while enabling it to cut through it.

Actually thats the first I have seen one of those come apart so I have never had to replace one. I'll see if there is anything about it on WIS when I go to work but a lot of times its hard to find documents about exterior trim. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Better let the dealer do that. You are going to have to remove the fixed rear window to get to that rubber frame and reseat it.

Thanks Redeye. You're right - this looks painful! Will be sending back to dealer next service.

Sad...... had the same problem with my 2004 ML350.... wouldn't you think after 7 years MB would actually do something.... Btw, when my dealer washed and waxed my vehicle after servicing it (nice touch!! hehe), they got wax on the black trim... ugh.... Now how should I go about removing the wax? i tried using soap and water but it didnt do anything.... Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

My dealer actually replace them for me under warranty. He said it shouldn't do that as my has completed faded to a different color and my car is garage all the time and hardly every park outside for more then 5 hours during shopping or buying groceries.
