Install aftermarket H7 D2S HID ? Is it possible

Hi,

My 2002 Ml came with Halogen H7. I would like to know if I can upgraded to aftermarket H7 Hid kits (the real deal) ? I know that on some truck-cars, you need to bring it to the dealer to reprogram the computer to accept the HID (voltage and automatic light featured cars). My Ml has the automatic light on/off as well. Can someone tells me if it will be plug and play ?

Thanks

Is it?

Yeh, I would like to know if that is possible too as I didn't find anything using the search function. I would like to do either H7 HID replacement or get MB Bi-xenon(which is about $800-$1000 on ebay). Thanks,

Winston.

I installed bi-xenons in my 02' and they were a pain in the ***. They flickered and flickered for minutes until they finally stayed lit. I went back to H7 Silverstars. They were more a hastle than they were worth.

Yes, easy on the early headlights (but tons of glare), not so easy on the '02-up projectors. Requires a ring to be made to hold the bulbs/ignitors in place. I have a 2004 Jaguar Valeo kit in mine

Just a note: I'm talking about using normal D2S/R-based bulbs. The rebased H7 style won't be much easier and no additional notching of the bulb base is required to fit D2S/R bulbs into the projector housings. The OEM adapter rings may work on the rebased H7 bulbs with separate ignitors.

Remember, H7 and D2S/R have identical arc/filament placement, so you can run OEM D2S/R bulbs and an OEM set-up may be cheaper.

here is the stock ring I have. This is off my older style headlamp, you think itll work on the newer projector(halogen set)

This is also the empty space I was telling you about, on the right of this picture you can see where the ring secures itself via the three screws

nope, you essentially need to make these with 2 small tabs in line with the notches at 3:00 and 9:00.

Thanks for all the information.

All, Thanks for all the information. I'm planning to get D2S bulbs, H7/D2S adapter and Hella ballasts as my '03 ML350 already has H7 halogen projector and a nice cutoff. Also, does anyone know of better pricing on the components from a reliable source? All I have now is ebay or hidplanet. Thanks,

Winston.
