Error Code P0500 and BAS/ESP, ETS, ABS

I got my engine light diagnosed at Autozone. It came up as P0500 (vehicle speed sensor). Where is this located and is it difficult to change?

The BAS/ESP, ETS, and ABS lights still remain on. I don't think the two are related, but they could be. What could cause all three of these lights to be on? Could it be a ABS sensor, relay, brake switch?

What do you guys think?

Check the brake light switch, known to go bad and will trip the lights you describe. Cheap part and looks easy to replace.

P0500- left front/rear vehicle speed signal.

the vehicle speed signal is needed by the ECU for the actual vehicle speed . the sensor is evaluated and detected by the ESP and passes this information to the ECU via CAN as an input signal.

check the internal resistance of the VSS sensor and compare it on the right VSS sensor. if one or two sensor deviates largely then you know what to do next. approximately the resistance is about 800-2300 ohms for the front sensors and 600-1800 ohms for the rears.

it will take you just 5 minutes to remove one sensor. upon installation, cleanliness on the magnetic tip of the VSS sensor must be observed.

hope this helps.

FYI: they are related via same data bus- CAN C (engine side.)

Where are these (VSS) sensors located?

front sensors are mounted on the steering knuckle assemblies and the rear sensors are installed on the rear wheel carriers. remove the tires to get a clear view. the sensor only has one screw.
