New 01 ML320, a few questions about the Modular Control System
For those that have the MCS without integrated telephone or the navigation. how would i go about purchasing and installing these things myself.
I would perfer not to use the motorola phone that dealers sell you and integrate a phone that has car kit abilities ie. muting, uses stock microphone, speakerphone.
Navigation: clairparts.com has the mcs navigation for 1500$ but the picture is of the unit with LCD. that is what i already have. i just want to activate the nav functions by purchasing whatever is missing to make navigation/voice active.
If anyone can give me some suggestions and or where to turn to, that would be great. much appreciated. Good value internet parts dealers?

No phone other than the MB Motorola will integrate with the MCS. Re the nav system, why not just go to your dealer's and have him put in the correct system (Phone and Nav) and be done with it. Should you have a problem they will cover it under warranty and won't blame you or anyone else for putting their fingers into the system and causing damage. Doin it this way may cost a bit more but can certainly eliminate lots of problems down the road.

thx...
alot of things can be done at the dealer if you have enough money. i'm questioning for those that HAVE bought the module on their own and HAVE installed it themselves, point me in the right direction.
don't care about the cell phone integration anymore. just the MCS nav module with cd player.
TIA

Don't believe that you will be saving much money even if you do not count your labor by doing it yourself with an aftermarket unit. Can't be more than a couple of hundred bucks, insignificant on a vehicle that costs what the Ml does. The risk factor is high and who do you go to when it does not work right.

Navigation system installation
I am glad you posted this topic. I have read in another forum that the Navigation system is very easy to install in the 2002 ML320. A novice can do this installation in less than 30 minutes.
I didn't see it in ClairParts.com. Are there any other sources to get this part??
I will be watching this one closely!

If it says 0 satellites it ain't working. Perhaps if you leave it outside and turned on for a while they will be received as it always takes a while for the first resolution and position to come up. If not check out your antenna and antenna connections.

NAV easy for 2001
You have to use the Mercedes phone with the MCS. The interface is unique.
The NAV is fairly easy to install into a 2001. I have done it. It does require a kit to split the Sat Signal under the passenter seat for the teleassist and NAV. It is fairly easy to do since the vehicle is already prewired to the dash.
Unfortunately for the 2002, while the under seat connection is not necessary, you have to take the unit to a dealer to have the voice prompt activated. Not needed for 2001.

So what do you need for 2002?
So what do you actually need to install NAV into a 2002?
I found the in-dash CD player on clairparts.com for $350 USD.
What else is required?
I won't have a problem with getting the dealer to program the car for free or a very small fee, but will I need anything else?
