Changed cabin air filter today, Big difference.
See attached photo, The old and new filters beside each other, (and this was after tapping out the loose stuff!)
There is a noticeable improvement in airfow now. My ML has approx 60,000mi It most likely has not been been changed in a very long time.

I followed instructions from this web-site.
http://www.whnet.com/4x4/cabinairfilter.html
which took me to a step by step instruction link
http://www.keysolutions.com/m-class....ent&AutoFramed
What puzzled me is the picture attached below from that site. When I pulled down my old factory installed cabin filter, it was installed just the opposite of what this picture shows...the periferal sponge border showd up on the other side (towards the center console) and not towards the passenger side door, as this picture seems to hint.
I went ahead and installed my new cabin filter the way the olde one came out, but this picture keeps haunting me...
Can anyone confirm, the right way of inserting the filter. The MB part doesn't come with any instructions or arrows on it.
The plastic "tang" toward the seat. The filters are directional.
Mike,
To change the filter takes 5 min max,
no tools required. (on the early models)Mike,

Mike,
Below is the picture of my old factory installed filter....the protruding stuck leaves in the filter will give you an idea of how it had been installed - clearly the other way around. So, did it come installed wrongly from factory???
Can such a mistake happen at the factory? I am not surprised, if it did happen, it went un-noticed in QA..

The dealer wants $35 for a replacement. A good tip for an aftermarket supplier would be sweet!
