Price of Extended warranty

Since my dad's 02 ML320 had some issues which would cost alot to get fixed(oil pan leak and now rear main seal leak--which were covered by warrany) he's looking to get an extended warranty thru MB Dealer.

Do you guys know how much these run for?

Well, I don't know the exact price but I am guessting about $3K for the first year and the additional years get a little cheaper.

If you are looking at getting orginal MB warranty the only way - AFAIK - you can get it is if you are the original owner. If you are not then you will have to go to 3rd party warranty provider.

When I got my new E I also got an additional year and that cost me $2400 but I know that if you don't get it from the start the price goes up.

Though i believe it would be best through the MB dealer...I asked my MB dealer which extended warranty they accepted other than their own...answer was Continental. I got it for less then $2200 (The platinum or whatever they call the best on they offer). Up to 10 yrs and 100K. already used it and was no problem.

No third party warranty is worth it. And you are not eligible for a factory mb extended after the first year of ownership from date of purchase.

Pointman...by what experiences are you making your assessment that no third party warranty is worth it? I spent $2200 and within 1 month used it with no problems at a MB dealership. Should I have another issue, I'll use it again.

it gives me a peace of mind that should I need a major repair that i'm covered. For me...the cost $2100-2200, it's worth it.

Several third party warranty companies have gone under causing people to be holding nothing more than a piece of paper in their hands.

i think some of the 3rd party warranty companies are not honored at mb dealers... i got mine (MB extended) on the date of purchase cuz i was told i cannot purchase MB warranty afterwards...

Provided the company doesn't go under, they are a great way to keep maintenance costs down. I used one on my CLK and it cost about $1700 and I have claimed over $4K in repairs to date on it. As far as warranties go, I just picked up an preowned certified 01 ML320 and Mercedes offered 3 years/36K miles for $3500...a bit steep compared to the aftermarket waranty companies.

Got my extended warranty from the MB dealer upon purchase of my CPO'd 02 ML500, paid a little over $2000 for it. MB's extended warranty has no deductible and has better coverage compared to 3rd party warranties
