Help! I just got done installing a Navi unit in a 05 ML350 - the actual install was quite easy (read some posts here that helped a ton - thanks folks) but that is when my troubles started.

Now the unit powers on, take in/ejects disks but just does not play anything. I tried a regular CD and that does not play neither does the Navi disk. Once the Navi DVD is in - it still thinks it is a music CD and says insert NAvi disk but doesn't do anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also, the face plate does not automatically close when a CD/DVD is inserted - as it does when I insert a cassette - not sure if this is linked.

If I remember correctly I do not believe that the face plate will close automatically when a DVD is inserted. Did you install the correct part number for an 05?? Was it purchased used?? Could be a bad unit. Could be that the car has to be programmed to know the unit is there by a dealer. Is the antenna connected correctly?? You have lots of possibilities for your problem, Good Luck.

This is the correct part number but the unit was used - got this off of eBay.

Any way to test any of these hypothesis that you know of?

maybe u bought CD-based navi drive???

No - I am sure it is a DVD based one - as it also came with the DVD disk. Moreover, shouldn't it play regular CDs though?

Off of EBay??? Most likely a defective or failed unit. Why do you think most of this stuff ends up there??

Wierd. I installed my NAV DVD in my '03. Bought it on eBay. Other than no voice until I had it "version coded" at the dealer (about $100) the NAV actually worked right away. I didn't try a CD prior to having it coded so can't help you there. You do have to push the button to close the screen. It doesn't close automatically when you put in the disk.
