2003 ML350 Navigation Problem
I have a 2003 ML350 with the MCS command radio unit.
I bought a used DVD drvie for this car and had MB install it.
It works perfectly except if I turn off the car and then turn it back on the Nav screen goes blank, the radio, cd etc work and display OK, but no Nav.
If I let the car sit for 20-30 minutes it works again.
I changed the Drive with another one and same problem! So I don't think its the drive itself.
I took it to the dealer and they want big $$$ just to try to diaganose the problem.
Any ideas???

Someone suggested to try another disk but unfortunately I don't have another disk to try. I can't see how its the disk. I mean it works perfectly , even on a long trip. It seems like the unit needs a constant power supply or it somehow loses its (MCS head) memory that it has a NAV drive. When I let the car sit for a while and restart it the MCS must reboot check for devices on the optical loop and find the NAV unit until the power is interupted again?

I have the same problem with my ML 2002 Navigation
When I do turn off the car for a short stop, the navigation does not come back 3-5 mins. If I do make stops longer than 20 mins, it is ok, it comes back right away. I did try couple different DVDs, but all gives me the same results.
I plug out the MCS fuse once during the problem, and it somehow resets the boot process and the navigation comes back up very quickly. I wonder this is some kind of grounding issue.

Did the problem start by itself or was it from a new installation? I don't get the ground issue because mine workes with no problem for hours until you turn it off even for a second then you must wait for the 20 min. or so
( reboot?)
I'm thinking more of a constant power issue, because I also notice that the unit seems to loose memory ( i always choose heading up but it defaults to North up) So if the nav drive needs constant power, when the key shuts off main power that could be the root of the problem.
