Class Action Law Suit

I just received a letter from MBUSA stating that as the result of a class action related to the damages to engines of '98 and '99 MLs with FSS when using conventional oil instead of synthetic oil, they are extending the warranty to 10 years. It is not clear whether the extra warranty only covers engine damage related to the oil or it is a full extension of the full warranty.

It say it has sent out letters in March of 2001 to the '98 and '99 ML owner to inform us of the synthetic oil requirement. I never received on has anyone else received such notice

My concern besides the quality of the car is what is all going to do to the resale value when all these quality issues become more publicized beyond the MB owners.

The warranty extension is only for damage that sludge does to an engine. Yes, I received the letter for the 98 ML I had and also for my 01 E320 which had synthetic from the factory. The odds of sludge damage are almost nil and I believe that the only party that benefitted from the class action suit was the attorney. This is the case in most class action suits. The attorney is asking the court to have MB pay him 7.5 million. Thats a real joke and unfortunatly one of the problems with our legal system today.

Angry

I spoke to "customer service" and MBUSA and I was told that the extension only covers the specific damages related to the oil issue. I was also told that I may be asked to show prove that I have used synthetic oil since march 2001, which was when the noitce was sent to warn the owners of this issue! This is pure bull, since I never received any notice. In addition, I never received the $1000 rebate/coupon they have supposedly sent out to all '98 and '99 ML owner towards the next purchase of a new MB - not I that I would ever buy another one. I have just recently traded in my E320 for a Lexus LS430 instead of the new E. Thank god I went that way since even the new E appears to have inconsistent quality issues as did the the C class.

Man, I can't believe you went with the LS430. It's a great car but the MB S class trumps it. I would avoid the first year production new E class, but man, not the LS430. That "overweight looking" nice car is virtually a carbon copy of the S class. The LS430 is a great car but I skipped it because apparently, Toyota engineers feel it's much easier to market and sell a copy of the MB S class.

Enjoy you problem free car, they really are problem free but delearship sucking.

If I were ever to get another MB it would be a S class - more likely a S500 sports. However, at $20,000 cheaper with comparable features and a little quicker, LS430 is just a much better value. In addition, the service I have received from the sales and service people has been much more attentive than that of the MB. They seem to try harder.

Thumbs down

Someone had a real difficult childhood growing up didn't we? All that hostility! That is really very unfortunate.

DSMIT, please remember it's 'whining' ...

customers who pay your wages.

If the ML (or MB's in general) were perfect you could find yourself out of a job.

Further, when a customer has plonked down the best part of $50k for a 'quality' product then he / she is entitled to good customer care.

Come to that even if the cash involved was a fraction of $50k - the customer comes first.

Incidentally, it's comments like your last one which sadly, on occasion, typifies the poor service some ML owners are experiencing.

Maybe you should consider an alternative career?

i give my client quality service that they do deserve.
i have been doing this for 14 years ,have a very strong, very loyal client base.
they dont whine and complain about all this crap that most of what seem to be do it yourselfers do .mercedes is a quality product, unfortunatly some of there customers arent.
they expect perfection.
mercedes is such a finly tuned vehicle that it does require more tlc, more attention than others, just like anything else that is considered high end.
mercedes is not perfect, never has been never will be ..
and it has been proven that most purschasers by the ego, the star, the persona that goes with a benz,,,not the safety, performance or anything else.
didnt mean to offend you or anyone ,just voicing my opinion .

i thought thats what this page was for !!!!

reply

i got to admit that YES, i bought a mercedes-benz coz of the name the logo and the pride that comes with it. When ppl see a Benz, what else can you say it's a MERCEDES. i don't like lexus that much except for there IS, and Rx models, but i wouldn't buy it coz i feel a lot safer in a benz than in a lexus. Japenese cars tend to be less safe (not all jap cars) but a lot of them. i drove an Lexus IS300 and a c-class and i feel very secure and protected in a C-class. NO offense to any lexus fans, but just stating how i feel about jap cars. Don't get me wrong cars like infiniti, acura, and lexus built solid cars, but compared to benz or any other german cars you could really see the quality built. the metal sheeting the body frame are way more solid than japs.
