Hello everyone. I'm new here and I have a newbie question. Does anyone know how to remove and install a rear bumper cover of a 2002 ML500? I have damage on my bumper and I need to replace it. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about where the trailer hitch is or the whole thing?

Hello.

I'm talking about the whole thing. My son backed into a tree and damaged the right side of the bumper beyond repair so I need to put a new cover.

Removal of the rear bumper cover is very easy. Carefully remove the small access panels on the right and left lower bumper cover. Once you remove these covers there are either 2 or 4 bolts inside these covers [ I don't remember...its been quite a while since I removed the cover]. Unscrew these bolts and carefully slide the cover rearward. It should slide right off.

There is one bolt behind each small cover and two nuts behind the lower center cover. There may be an antenna cable connected to the right side of the bumper but you don't have to remove that until you get the bumper off. I've had both my 98 and 05 rear bumpers off and it is ridiculously easy.

Is the front cover just as easy and does anyone know about the bolt locations (2001 ML 320)?

No, not as easy. I broke all 4 studs on the lower brackets trying to mount fog lights in my 98ML. I had to drill out the old studs and tap for new bolts. I did not notice all the other mounting hardware but it is definately not as easy as the rear bumper.
