hey guys i have a 99' ML and the drivers side window will go down but won't come back up. i don't know whats wrong or what i have to replace, can anybody help me out.

Most likely the switch. Replace the switch module in the consol with the latest part number

Had the same exact problem with my 2000 ML430, it is the switch. Unfortunately all of those switches are 1 unit (4 windows, mirror, rear defog, light, and rear window lockout). Mine was under my extended warranty so got it free. It will cost around 200 or so installed. The unit you can find online for about 115. Not too hard to take apart the center console.

I had to replace my window switches as well. I had the same exact problem. Driver's side window went down but did not come back up. Before I had the switch replaced I found a way to get the window up (sometimes). I would pull up on the window switch real hard and pull to the left even harder. Almost felt like I was going to pull the damn switch right off. But by pulling it up and to the left it must have made a connection somehow. Only problem was it didn't work all the time so I had no choice but to get it fixed.

Yes that used to work for me before I had mine repaired in 99. The switch thing is a known issue in early ML's. The latest part number switch is claimed to fix the problems of failure. I had this issue with the 98 ML I had but never in the 02 I had or now the 06 ML's.

Had this problem today on mine .The driver side window would not come up . Drove 20 miles in freezing weather to work and hopped on this forum and read this thread.. tried to forcefully close and broke the switch and in an effort to put the switch back the window started coming up .. so pulled the window back up with the white thing inside the switch (it worked ).. and put the switch back (ofcourse it is broke )..this will work for couple days until i fix it

I tried to take the Window Switch board apart and fix it and broke the copper hooks. So looks like I need a new window switch .
I searched\read the forum and I am seeing that the window switch
1. Price from $38-$150 (any suggestions ? )
2.Will not have this problem again in future with the new design(is this true?)
3.Also blowed the power window fuse (drivers..anyways managing without using it until I fix it ). Where do I get these fuses ? (advanced auto parts?
etc).
4. Also looks like the background bulbs fused.

Now I need a Window Switch Called the Dealer and they wanted $156.

Bite the bullet mate .... It costs 100 Euros here in Germany also ....

Real easy to replace ...... unscrew the 2 screws in the bottom of the center console bucket, remove the bucket, remove the shifter surround, pry up the center console trim form the switch end.....

I had the SAME problem dude....

But the switch module on Ebay which is what I did and install it yourself since it's pretty easy. Let me know if you need the model number. I paid like $180 for the switch and labor is free since I did it myself.

Had duct tape on my window for about a week while waiting for parts...haha

Fuse blows when switch is going bad so totally normal.

The dealer has it currently for $156.
Dont need duct tape when the scwitch is bad. Just break the switch(if you think you are going to put a new switch) by pulling the white plastic thing hard enough and then use your pen or tooth pick to bring the window either up or down).

Same problem (driver's side) and the dealership just placed the switch last Monday. I just checked my invoice and the cost for the switch that was replaced was $131.04.

I'm feeling lucky. I had the same problem a few years ago and was able to get a replacement switch for about $60 here in Georgia. If I recall correctly, the dealer quoted me a price at least twice this amount. The funny part is that this independent guy gets his parts from the dealer. Maybe you should try one of your local foreign autoparts stores.

Just browsing and thought I'd add my experience with my E320. It seems that every year I find a new feature on this "old" benz. In '06, because my remote is not working and I use the key on the passenger side door, I found that holding the key in the lock position, raises all the windows and closes the sunroof. In '07 I found that holding the key in the unlock position, lowers the windows.

So this time, when the console unit stopped working for the Driver window, I can at least lower the window when going through the tolls and tellers and drive throughs and raise it by manually "locking" the door.

Ive just done it and it took me about 60 minutes and am so thrilled that i could do it, albeit simple enough.

I had driver side window start to act up in not going back up then it finally stopped altogether, all others fine. I took switch assembly out and checked connections and while doing so got window back up. Replaced window switch assembly and it did not fix issue, now door locks don't work. Anyone have any ideas about a possible short and where it could be?
