Cam Shaft Position Sensor...what's that?
My check engine light came on 2 days ago. The 2005 ML 350 runs fine no problems except for the light. My neighbor who is a mechanic connected my truck to a OBD code reader. It told me 2 codes 1) P0341 -- cam shaft position sensor 2) p01456 -- EVAP leak or possible gas cap not right. I filled up my truck and re-tighten the gas cap. Miraculously the check engine light is no more. Should I worry about the cam shaft position sensor? Where is this sensor for position "A"? What does it do? The local dealer wanted $180 for the part, mb4x4parts.com wanted $97 shipped. Thanks in advance for your help.

Camshaft position sensor is a timing tool (in conjuction with the crankshaft position sensor) to tell the computer where the vehicle is timed. Usually the sensor is at the rear of the engine, under the intake. I'm not 100% sure where it is on a M-Class.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone else know where the exact location of this sensor is? Pictures would be awesome. My check engine light came back I just ordered the part from mb4x4.com. It should be ready to install by the weekend. I hope my truck doesn't give me any fits until then.

Oops! Sorry about my misread!
I have done some research on that sensor also and I think it's a little easier to get to. If I can find a link, I'll post it...

The sensor is located at at the upper left side of the engine, below and to the right of the dipstick.
It's black with a connector plugged into it. My digital camera decided to DIE (on Christmas Day of course!) so I can't provide a pic, but you should have no problem locating/replacing it.
AutoPartsPeople has the sensor for around $115.00, that was the cheapest I have found. I am considering changing mine to resolve a hard starting issue I've been having. I hope this helps...
