Question 'chirping sounds" from dash on ML500 - help?

Does this sounds familiar to anyone? My 2002 ML500 randomly eminates a "chirping sound" (kind of like a whistle) from the driver side dash area. Sometimes lasts for a few minutes - some days it doesn't even happen. Doesn't seem to be related to any radio /speaker function or to speed/accelaration. Any thoughts much appreciated as I am unable to predictively replicate the issue at the dealership.

I had that

I had that happen on mine too. I have a 2000 ML320. It seemed to chirp in the dash, drivers side, really close to the windshield. It happened the first winter I had it then it never happened again. It is very annoying.

I had this problem on an ML 270 and it turned out to be a rubber spacer on the underside of the hood close to the windshield. Rubbing a little vaseline along the top edge of the rubber where the hood could contact it stopped the problem.

Thanks - it turned out to be a fan in (or near) one of the fuse boxes - that fan needed to be replaced. Mercedes fixed it - they had recently done it for a different customer and knew what it was.

It looks like I have exactly the same problem. Would you mind letting me know how much they charged you for replacing the fan
Thanks

I have the same noise from my '98 ml 320 - it sounds like a cricket is living inside the dash.

more specific?

Mark - can you be more specific about the fan - part number, what the fan is for etc? I have the same problem when it gets very cold.

thanks

I had the same problem. It started few weeks ago after major fixup at the dealer where they checked the entire electrical system. My suspicion was that it was a fan because of the unpredictable noise.

Can you give us some details of the location?

2002 ml 500.
thx

What do I tell the dealer?

My 2002 ML320 has that same problem, but how do I approach the dealer with it?

Weird Noise/Chirping

The chirping I get sometimes turns into a very loud whistle. This, however, only happens when it's really really cold. The car has to be outside for several hours in -15 C degree weather for the chirping, then if it gets to -20 or -25 and it's windy, then I can expect the whistle. It only lasts for 15 minutes and goes away as the car heats up.

I am still waiting for Mark's reply as to the part number, but my dealership has already said to bring this post and they will look at it. The trouble is, it's impossible to reproduce - but they have been great and I'm sure they will replace the part.

Mark - still waiting to here from you on thepart number of you have it.

ML 430
I drive an ML430 and experienced a chirping /whistling sound when the car was started in cool or very cold mornings. It would last less than 45 seconds.

The sound disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared.
