Is this a good deal on a ML500??

Hi everyone. I need a little input from those in the know.
I came across a Silver 02' ML500 at the BMW dealer for $43k.
It has 13.5K miles on it and looks to be in excellent shape. It has xenons lamps, Bose system with changer, and parktronics. Is it a good deal? Are there any issues with the ML500 that I should know about? The salesman didn't know much about the ML as he's a BMW guy, so any input would be appreciated. I know there were some problems with the earlier ML model years for I have heard my best friend complaints about his 99' ML 320.

TIA,
Russ

Have had my 02 ML50 since Aug 01. I really like it. Its my second ML and replaced my 98 ML320. Had a few issues initially, mostly with the new 02 stuff but my dealer straightened them all out. Price seems fair. My 02 had an MSRP of about 10,000 more than the price you quoted but had more stuff on it that I had ordered.

thanks for the reply..

btw, did you order your ML500 with the 3rd row seats?
If so, are they removeable? The benz dealer said they're not
removeable. Funny, I just got off the phone with my friend and his 99' ml320 3rd row seats are removeable....

What the &^%cki^% BS crock!!! A Benz dealer actually said that??? of course they are both removable and foldable (if you don't want to remove them). I have them on my ML and they are a life saver (I have 3 kids). You have a variety of settings available with these seats. That benz dealer should be closed. I guess the only reason for their ignorance may be that not many 3rd rows are ordered at that particular dealership!!!

As far as the original post, that's about Ok for a ML500. It really depends on what other options are on the truck. The 02's have the best reliability (read that as build quality) of all the ML's. At 13K, it's probably just had it's first "A" service - first oil change and other minor service items. Make sure to find this out. If it hasn't, have the BMW dealer take the car to a MB dealer to have it done - use this as a deal "breaker" if you wish. If they say it has, ask for proof.

The remainder of the original warranty and the remainder of the free service during the warranty period should come with the vehicle. Be certain you get all the manuals and maint booklet that would indicate what services have been already done. From the booklet you can detirmine the original selling dealer and thats where you should go for service if its not too far away

This ML500 did not have a 3rd row. Is it possible to order one and have it installed at the dealership. I'd ask the benz dealer but he already told me the wrong info on the removeability of that 3rd row. Sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to figure out if I should just special order one and wait the 3-4 months or buy this used ML500, but it would be nice to have that 3rd row since I have a 1 1/2 year old and another in the oven...Tia

I do not have the 3rd row seating as I don't need it. With the newer ML's the 3rd row is a factory only option as they also install the second row seat that flips down for access to the 3rd row. Used to be that they all had the 2nd row seat that provided access but that changed when they went to the newer type 2nd row mechanism. If you have the 3rd row I believe that they can be easilly removed. I have heard of people installing the older 3rd row in 02's but getting to them is an issue as the flip down seat cannot be easilly retrofitted and then it requires climbing over the 2nd row seat backs to get to the 3rd row.

Sosh is correct - 3rd row is factory only for the ML500. As far as usefullness, it's useless for the 1 1/2 yr old. My 5 & 6 year olds can't fit there comfortably becasue their legs don't reach the floor and the spacing from the 2nd row is too small for then to fully stretch their legs!!!! My 10yr old, however, has no problems - longer legs which rest on the floor. If you use a car seat, that's OK - but I won't do that there though, it's too cose to the rear glass. In an case, you can't do 3rd row with ML500 unless from factory.

Hey Sosh, I tried to have my auto up windows do what yours but they worked just fine. Guess my 02 must have had updated window code!!! How's yours working after the reboot??
