Horn needs to be replaced...any help?
hey guys, it seems both my horns on my 98 ML320 are rusted and have stopped working, and need to be replaced, I thought I'd try doing this myself, dealer is willing to do it for $145 for parts/labor...but i just thought I'd give it a shot if its not too complicated...
...any help would be appreciated

Just remove the nut that holds the original horn, unplug the wire connection, mount the new horn with the same nut, plug in the wire and repeat the same process on the second horn. You need one high tone and one low tone horn for this job. The link provided in my previous post sells the horns or you can get them at the dealer. My 2 cents.

I just went out and checked...you're right it doesnt seem that hard at all, ill have to go out and buy the new parts and install it myself...does it make a difference which side of the front the low/high tone horn is bolted on?
Also I see that the OEM parts are about $80 for both while the ML55 is about $145...is there a REAL noticable difference between them??

Didn't take that long. I might have just removed the nut on the back of the horn and not the bracket. This was done a few years ago. Did you get the ML55 horns? Should not be that difficult of a job.

Oh that makes sense...yea i took the bracket off too....I just put the new horns on, I just ended up going to the local store and getting a pair for $45...and they sound really good

Careful what you buy. I found out that the cheap ones from local auto stores fail quickly when you get water in them. Since I replaced mine with the 500/55 horns, puddles don't seem to make any difference. I don't know if they're made differently, but just a note!

I bought some "generic" brand horn from the local Pep Boys...it's nothing special but certainly does the job well enough... these are like the ones I bought but mine weren't PIAA
