Hissing when Accelerating (Driver Side)
New problem. I have a 2002 ML500. When accelerating, I noticed a hissing and when I ease the accelerator, the hissing quiets. It seems like its coming out of the dashboard or steering or below by my feet. There is no lack of power and steering seems fine.
Could this be a simple vacuum hose?

i was driving my ml350 last night and hit a big pot hole and thats when my acceleration on the car started to give me issue it would take a few seconds before it response. So i parked the car turned it off and turnn it back on and the check engine light appeared. Now the car will take like 2 seconds to accelerate. Got home woke up this morning still the same issue. is there anything i can do without seeing my expensive mechanic and if not what should he be telling me

My hissing happened every time I had the A/C on and accelerated (on my E) and was traced to a leak in the climate control system - one of the tubes to the condenser, I believe. Try with the climate control off. If no hissing, you know what the problem is. If it still hisses, let us know.

If its the same problem I had, it was the transfer case. The dealer replaced it. It had the sound of whistling during acceleration. It sounded like it came from underneathe the dash and they even took out the instrument panel. I'm glad it was found because it was driving me crazy. Luckily the vehicle was still under warranty.

Golden rule for your transfer case. Change the fluid and see what happens. Plus its always a good thing to keep it changed frequently.
