Exclamation Sooo...my car is trying to kill me.

I'm having a pretty serious issue with my 00 ml430: when i'm on the freeway cruising at above 65mph i lose traction every now and then and the dash traction light lights up and the cars active braking starts randomly going off from wheel to wheel. tonight it almost caused me to spin out on the freeway, pretty scary stuff. I'm trying to diagnose what actually causes the problem, but it's been random. Also the BAS ESP light turns on ocassionally too... Anyone heard of this before? What the hell is going on?

hey azinn, yaw rate sensor might be the problem, but so may like 12 other things lol...this all started happening after i got my cars recall/warranty work done...think i'm going to have mb dealer take a look at it before i take it to my own mechanic.

yaw sensor....

I agree - almost certainly yaw sensor - one of the many well known ML gremlins.

As an aside the other MB forum is much more active that this one - if you haven't already tried, suggest you post over there as well / instead of here.

wow, your issue sounds verrry dangerous. upon researching i found it may be caused by a faulty yaw sensor or a lateral accelerator sensor...either way I don't know how MB hasn't been sued for this yet...

The ML is a very safe SUV if you're in a crash - not so safe if it's trying to kill you :-(
BTW - as I've warned many others - check your lower PAS hose and make sure it's fully updated as our ML lost all PAS fluid on a corner and nearly caused a nasty accident. No PAS and oil all over the road !

I solved the problem by selling the ML two weeks later.

BTW the PAS hose update (and tow should you need it) is fully covered by MB.

Strange they should cover the PAS hose but not so much the YAW sensor.

Monizzle - having fun with your ML yet ? :-)

Hey Tim, yeah I'm enjoying it for the most part, I have a few repairs to go through to fully enjoy it once I have time to take the car to my mechanic.
The yaw sensor issue freaks me out, I'm just staying off of the freeway for the time being. What's worse is from what I've read is MB dealers all have a different solution for the problem (if yaw sensor isn't mentioned).
The fact that the problem can happen at any moment is pretty f'd up.

And Azinn, complaint FILED.

2001 Mercedes ML320
Report it to the Vehicle Safety Hotline toll free at 1-888-327-4236 to report safety defects. I filed a complaint with the Office of Defects Investigation. If we all did this, maybe Mercedes would do a recall.

I agree - file......

this is a very nasty design flaw / defect - more so because it's a safety system which is having just the opposite effect.

Worst case could cause an ML to spin out at speed on the freeway and take out other vehicles as well.

This defect as been known about for some years, but as yet MB has not taken appropriate action - they need to, just like they did for the PAS hose.

Exclamation ml430 esp problem

My wife owns an ml430 2001- recently we have the same problem with the Esp system - it seems to brake and jerk on its own - this is very dangerous. This morning my mechanic told me it is the Esp rate sensor. Whatever it is it shouldnt be happening and if Mercedes knows that this is a common problem THEY SHOULD HAVE A RECALL!!!!

how do we get a class action lawsuit going? this needs to be rectified because I hear MB denies it although they are fully aware of the issue!

im going to post to the http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/Consumer.cfm today.

My stability control went crazy on last week.. Took it to the dealer for the hose recall. The Service manager say you have to pay for the sensor replacement $600. I told him it is dangerous. He just said.. you better pay to replace the sensor. get a diagnostic done at $145 first if you want to know which sensor to replace.

This item should be recalled. !!!!

Holy cow people, a 10 year old sensor is going bad, get it fixed. Quit complaining about it. If MB could have looked into the future and known this would happen they would have redesigned the sensor.
