Engine Temperature
I have a 2001 ML320 which I have driven for 5 and a half years, for the first about 3 years the engine temperature was stable and always remain just barely above the 80 degrees line, however for the past 2 years the temperature rises without any logical reason to right below the 100 degree line, just about 95/98 degrees. At first I thought it was the A/C, but the only difference I found out was that it was quicker to raise with the A/C on, but even without the A/C turned on, it eventually (way slower) would raise the temperature.
I have asked two different mechanics about this, with the second one I ended up flushing the coolant and replacing the thermostat, but the problem still persists. The mechanic kind of guesses that it may be the clutch of the fan, however he didn't feel comfortable enough to make the statement and have it replaced and he remain clueless. So any idea would be appreciated.

Yeah, it follows the same trend, also notice that when temperature is high, oil is burned and have to pour a quarter 2 or 3 times between oil changes. According to the dealer, ha ha, they say we are supposed to add oil every 800 miles, what a joke!

Try replacing the thermostat, also consider that your radiator even though having been flushed is partially clogged and may require replacement. The fan of course is another possibility. After all its almost 10 years old. Have you double checked the temp gage and sender?? Easy to do with a thermomitor.

Happens to my 2004 ML500 and i only have 56000 miles on it. I think its normal, considering it never goes up more than 100 C. I dont think it burns oil at that temperature.. so i would check some other problem. But, has anyone asked mercedes if this is normal or not?
EDIT: I just checked the Manual. It says, During severe operations or stop and go city traffic conditions, the coolant temperature may rise to approx 248f or 120 C.
The engine should not be operated with the coolant level in the red zone..etc Read it for urselves, so im guessing its normal
