REPLACEMENT: D Pillars

REPLACEMENT: D Pillars
I know the D Pillars tend to be problematic for the ML's. Dealer wants $260/each and I've read some guy having his local body shop sand it down and clear coating it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or does anyone know where I can purchase some cheap D Pillars online? I've searched and searched but haven't come up with any good leads. Let me know...thanks.

Just to clarify...if so many other people have a body shop do that work...why would you look for a replacement online??
I personally would have someone mold it out of Carbon Fiber and add that instead.
To answer your question...I do not personally know of a place online that sells them cheaper.

I'd just like to keep it as close to the original as possible. I'd like to buy the D-Pillars from the dealer but they are way too expensive. I still have yet to bring it into a body shop to get it checked but if I do, I'm also risking more damage too. For example, I went cheap on the windshield replacement, well not really it was $260 but still...anyway, that was just less than 7 days ago and there so SO MUCH WIND NOISE! Plus the guy, jacked up the upholstery, made a incision in the dash board and cracked the rain sensor housing! I'm scared to even bring it back to the guy to have him fix the windshield! HE may just screw up more! So, if I can do the job myself ...i.e. replace D-Pillars, I'd rather do it myself. At least if I mess up, it's all on me. Im pretty good at that kind of stuff anyway. So that is why I'm just looking for the parts themselves.

Dumb question, but are the D-pillars the external plastic panels that flank the rear hatch window? I had peeling clear coat on those panels on my ML320 that looked terrible. I wet-sanded, starting with #400 grit and went up to #1500 grit, then used my orbital polisher with Meguiars #105 & #205 polishes and after about an hour's work, they looked like new. A coat of wax & I was done. If my terminology is off and these are the wrong panels...never mind!!!

Best is to use window replacement urethane, same as used by original procedure, first applying primer, then the urethane.

If you want a carbon fiber finish just wrap them, rubdown with wet and dry to A) get rid of the old top coat and 2) give them a key so the vinyl adheres better. Do wrap the vinyl around the edge other wise it might get blown off.
Or the cheapest way is rub down with 600 wet and dry dry it off mask around the windows and bodywork to stop over spray and use a rattle can of 2k topcoat, 2 quick coats leave till takky about 20 minutes then a wet coat. leave to dry or use a air line or hair dryer to gently dry to touch dry. DO NOT POLISH OR WASH for at least a week so it can harden out.

I also want to replace the D pillars but they are too expensive. Finally, I bought some carbon-fiber-look sticky sheet and put it on. It's as cheap as a few dollars, though it doesn't look like the original.
