Not enough gas

I run the tank down in my 03 ML500 and it only takes 15 gallons. It's suposed to hold 23 gallons. Is this gas gage issue or is the gas tank smaller than they say it is?

my 99 ML430 only takes 15-16 gallons of gas when it's pretty much empty...even though my dealer says it's like 23-24 gallons...

oh and btw, they've replaced the fuel sender and level units. still, gas only takes about 15 gallons...that's the same as my 94 c220.

1999 has only 20 gallon tank... check your user manual. 2001 or 2002 it was changed to 23 gallons.

My normal fillup on ML430 (MY 2000) was around 16-17 gallons.

The gas tank can't hold 23 gallons then. Why are they lying? I have heard of other brands doing the same thing

This puts the range at 250 to 300. Which isn't much to write home about.

I just put 21+ gallons in my 2003 ML500. It's the first time I've ever paid more than $40 for a fill up since I was in England.

I have a 99 ML 430 and my fillup is around 15-16 gallons. I thought the ML 55 was the only one with the 23 gallon tank.

Inaccurate Fuel Gauge

All the ML (or most of them) fuel gauges are inaccurate. I have reported this several time to my local MB dealer and even had a factory rep come down and check it out. MBUSA knows about this but will not fix it. They issued some sort of internal tracking number to identify this problem, but the dealer keeps telling me that MBUSA does not have a fix for this problem. The lucky thing is that at least it shows less gas than actually is in the tank, so you will not run out of gas. I have had 4 sending units (fuel pump combination) replaced and have had 4 fuel gauges and 2 complete gauge clusters replaced but the problem persists. I now have a letter into MBUSA legal to get this resolved. I doubt anything will come of it though.

When does the lemon law come into play - or isn't a broken gas gauge serious enough?

Well wheather the tank is smaller than they say it is or this is a design flaw that MB isn't going to waste time or money on a Jeep Wrangler can go farther on a tank of gas.
