ML320 power steering issue

I have a 2002 ML320 and at low RPM (reversing) I have no power steering? Normally have to ride the brake and accelerator to keep up the RPM. Has anyone else had the same problem and what is the Fix / problem

Check your belt & tensioner pulley. If they are bad the PS pump will not turn as required under low RPM's

Thanks for your reply Art, I have checked the belts and pulley and they are OK. I will check and see what the idle RPM should be? Mine is around 500

You are way to low on the RPM, it should be between 675-725.

You must first check to see that the cable at the Pedal Value Sensor is not cracked (happens often).

Also check your accelerator pedal and see that it has no side to side movement, and that the spring is not stretched or broken.

Ok, I have checked the valve pedal sensor and it's not cracked. idle in park is 600/650 and in gear its just under 500. apart from udjusting up the throttle cable up the top, to increase the RPM where can I tweek up the RPM correctly. Thanks.

You can't, it must be done with a M/B scanner.

OK, went to a service center and had it looked at, ESM error and ME2- SFI motor eltronics 2.8 error. The guy said that the cam sensor and crank angle sensors are faulty. $400.00++? He then cleared all the minor errors and I will take it back to him tomorrow to follow up on..?.

The Cam And Crank Sensors have nothing to do with how low or how high the engine RPM's run at. You are being taken for a $400 ride by this mechanic.

Had both sensors replaced. Cam angle sensor causing car to run retarded and also broken. Car now runs / drives allot better. Diffrent car, idle still a little low. Still to have other faults fixed next time as Mach didn't have time today. Booked in for next week as it still has electronic error SFI 2.8?

That means your car had different issues. The RPM is not related to Crank or Cam sensor.
