ML GOD: Steering and suspension question:

You Holiness:

I have a strange droning noise and very slight feedback on my steering wheel when I turn the wheel to the left a little (like changing lanes). Noting happens when I make a right lane change. This sound is coming from the left front wheel. The sound and feedback grows in conjunction with speed. It is apparent begining at 20mph.

I just noticed this phenomenon recently. I had a 4 wheel alignment and tires rotated about 6 months ago. Haven't hit any potholes and I only drive this vehicle. I do not notice any unusual left front tire wear. I currently have 63k miles.

What do you think it is? Worn bearing? Steering rack worn?

Thanks!

It is really hard to day what noises are on this site without
hearing them. But if I would have to guess is something with that
alignment isnt right. if you are haveing feedback in the wheel it
sounds like maybe they didnt adjust the caster right on the left wheel, or worse yet left the adjustment loose. look at your printout it will tell you what the setting for that wheel is.
good luck!

Thanks....I'll get that checked again. Damm idiots didn't make a printout last time. I didn't know the caster was adjustable on the ML.

The noise is audible, like a worn diff hum when going straight. Louder when turning left. I'll grab my SA ASAP and take him for a ride.

Actually, it has been diagnosed as a worn bearing.

Just got the ML back. They replaced both front bearings and the #44 fuse/wiring harness. I have 63k miles and SA stated that my harmonic balancer looks ok but wants me to bring it in before my Starmark Warranty expire this August. I do not believe in extended warranties but this time it has been beneficial.

Did your steering feedback feel like something was loose in the steering column when driving over bumps? It also produces a bit of a knock in the front left of the vehicle.
I have this issue and am curious if this is common or expected in mls. I have an 03 ml350.
ML god, any help with this one?

For me, there was noise (a bearing whine) and minor vibrations when turning the wheel to the left. It was fine turning right.
