New Member - looking for pointers

Hi all,

New member to this section of the forum. Formerly had an SLK32 AMG, sold it, and bought a 1986 Carrera. Just picked up an ML320 from 2000 as a DD and it needs some TLC.

There's a coolant leak somewhere, I'm thinking the reservoir, and none of the brake lights work, which I'm assuming is the brake light switch.

What are some other problem things I should look out for? Appreciate any tips as well on what the best shop manual is.

Porsche has a few with great pictures, hoping someone can steer me in the right direction here.

To find a leak in the cooling system, you should have it pressure tested at 20psi.

For the Brake Lights problem, you will need a test light.

Remove the cover under the Instrument Panel and access the BL Switch. Turn the key to pos. #2 and test the following wires:

Without touching the Brake Pedal, GREY & WHITE-test light should illuminate.

Manually push down on the Brake Pedal, BLUE wire-test light should illuminate. If the BLUE wire does not illuminate, you need a new BL Sw.

OK. Sounds good. CP changed. Do I need a test light or can I just test for voltage with a voltmeter?

What does CP mean? Stop using abbreviations only you know what they mean.

Yes you can use a volt meter if you have three hands.

Ummm. You asked me to change user CP. I did. Are you alright?

Voltmeters have clips. Thanks for the help.
